re: Can we be honest about Elden Ring now that the hype is passing? END GAME SPOILERS

Sometimes too much is a bad thing.
Elden ring is a phenomenal game….but it’s just too much. I don’t think an open world is needed. I honestly much prefer the level design of their other games.
God I want everything about Bloodborne at 60fps and with a graphical overhaul.

Everything past the Capital takes a nosedive.
The Mountaintops are the most boring zone with the least interesting stuff to do; the consecrated snowgrounds are literally the exact same zone, bosses start getting reused relentlessly at this point (debatably even starting in Atlus), Farum Azula is just everything sort of tossed together in a granted quite cool zone: Here, take a Crucible Knight, some dragons, here's your 6th Godskin encounter, here's another Draconic Tree Sentinel for some reason; Maliketh is literally the only saving grace of that zone.
Then back in the Capital you walk back up fight 2 good bosses and then they grace us with the biggest disappointment of an endboss in years with Elden Beast... Like, why am I fighting a dumb space whale that literally just runs away from me and doesnt do anything else for 5 minutes after having such a good fight in Radagon... Come on...
The game is good, but it's certainly no 10/10. The open world runs out of steam in the end and I think all in all, this game has the weakest bosses overall. There's like 80 bosses, and I don't think I really enjoyed fighting more than ~15 or so? In the other games, it's usually the exception for me to dislike a boss as opposed to the other way around.

I’m not melting…I don’t care really that people like the game. Hell I LIKE THE GAME. That’s why the discourse around this game is still so poison right now. The game is good. It’s not great. Not even close. I respect that FromSoft took big swings here and as should be expected some landed and others didn’t. Calling this game a 10/10 masterpiece is a joke though. There’s just some simple truths about this game a certain segment of the player base refuses to even acknowledge. It’s not a masterpiece. It does push some groundbreaking area in terms of how to design an open world and that should be respected. However, I don’t see how it can even be argued that Elden Ring in its current state is by the far the least desirable FromSoft game to consider replay value for.
Lmao….holy shite….the melt

Where are you saying it drops off a cliff? If anything, it got more enjoyable as the game progressed to me.
Yeah I agree. I enjoyed it start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed crumbling farm azula and mountain of the giants or whatever it's called. I'm kinda burned out it right now because I put so many hours into it, but will definitely be replaying it in the future.

Agree with him or not, take issue with his writing style or not, you're just being a dick at this point, intentionally trying to provoke him. I'm used to that kind of thing with political discussions, but not on the damned gaming board.

Sorry mate, no fertile ground here, if your goal is to get a rise out of me. Simply making an observation that you're acting like a count

I've enjoyed it for the most part, but I've defintely gotten frustrated multiple times over just horseshite deaths.

It’s the best game since Sekiro which was the best since DS3 and so on. I agree it’s probably their 3rd or 4th best though.
Only non-From games that have come close to competing are the two new Dooms.

The only area that really sucked was Mountaintops. Didn’t mind Haligtree or Farum Azula at all, some great boss fights too.
Game should’ve been 60% of its size and deleted all repeated content. The bloat keeps it from topping DS1, BB, and Sekiro

Nailed it.
It’s a great game, and I truly loved the first two playthroughs. It’s just not as tight and intricate as its predecessors.
I just hope the hype doesn’t influence them to tone down the difficulty. I want moar Manus/Midir/Nameless/Friede/Malenia

I devoted 20 hours into Elden Ring. That's about 19 more than any other Dark Souls clone.
The open world was done really well. It was more BotW than Skyrim or Assassin's Creed. I do wish that it would somehow let you know which caves you've already explored and whatnot.
I also wish their was a way to "bank" your XP. What I kept doing was only attempting bosses right after I leveled up because I didn't want to get annihilated by the bosses and then have to commit to killing them in order to regain my XP.
I am not the biggest fan of loosing XP upon death or the corpse runs in general TBH. I don't personally feel From Software games suddenly get easier if XP persists upon death. It just respects my time a bit more.

You're an arse if you post shite and don't bother to use minimum formatting to make it readable. It's annoying to read posts like that. Like the message board version of dude who shows up to a game tournament without bathing for the past week.
I had no trouble reading it.

I'd put it ahead of DS1 simply for having the ability to fast travel from the get-go. But I agree with what you are saying.

I think a lot of the hype comes from the fact that most game reviewing organizations picked someone to review the game that was already a huge fan of FromSoft and the Souls-like genre in general. Which makes sense, as you're going to get a shite review from someone who isn't capable of playing the game.
Dunky has a good video about game reviews which basically says this. I think its kind of true for movies too but with games your taste matters a lot, and knowing what the reviewer enjoys gives you more context on where the reviewer is coming from.

I enjoyed Mountaintops because I think the concept/backstory of the area is really cool, but yeah if you throw that part out it probably was a weaker area.

The open world is un-necessary and makes the game too overwhelming. I have a ton of places to go, and I don't even know where to begin. Volcano Manor, Mt. Gemir, Altus Plateau, Caelid, and I still haven't beaten Raya Lucaria yet either.
I prefer the Dark Souls/Bloodborne level design.
