Kibler announced he was stepping down from being a HS caster for Blizz over this.
He says he understands that Blizzard doesn't want their tournaments to become political platforms in general and such, but also that it's obvious they went way overboard on blitzchung's punishment to make an example out of him. Says he will not be a smiling face for Blizzard tacitly endorsing this.

Good for him, he's sacrificing a lot of visibility and access that Blizzard gives him.

Whatever. With how horrified everyone has been to say a word about this I am glad to see Sweeney show some backbone.
Sounds like someone needs to do it and prove him right. Tencent pulling out of Epic would change my mind on Epic. No way they would stay if he endorsed such actions.

One year ban and take his prize money, yeah that seems like a just and fair punishment.

I honestly expected the number to be higher. Not that 12% is something to scoff at, but to bend over for 12% in a way that seems to stick the middle finger up for the 55% (and shite, I'd assume the 33% would be more in line with the 55% side of things), it's odd. It's like they aren't backing CURRENT profits, but assuming that (a) Americas are going to forget about this and no real damage will be done over time and (b) China is going to take wayyyy off soon.
That 12% also includes areas that aren't under China's thumb.

Yes but if you lose that 12%, you lose it permanently. The gamers that are boycotting them now in the US will eventually come back.
ETA: Also, where did that report come from?

Activision Second-Quarter 2019 Financial Results
I'd be real curious to see how much of that 12% is actually China and not the Asia regions they don't control.

Koreans love Blizzard.

mean, I get Blizzard's stance even though I don't agree with it. If they aren't able to sell anything in China then that cuts a MASSIVE chunk out of their profits.
So you're in effect completely fine with the Chinese government getting to dictate what an American company's policies should be? What you, as an American citizen, are allowed to say, do, see, and hear is being dictated by the Chinese government because billionaires over here want to make even more billions over there?
I'm all for making money but not at any cost. There comes a point where you are damaging your country and that is not permissible.
If you enjoy the protection of American law, the protection of the American military, the protection of the American taxpayer when you need a bailout, that gives you an obligation to uphold basic American values in how you conduct your business.
The Chinese government bullies these companies because they can. If these companies actually start standing up to them en massse and the Chinese economy suffers for it, they'll change their tune. Right now they make threats and American companies are caving. That's the perfect prescription to get more threats.

Hong Kong protesters turn Overwatch’s Mei into freedom symbol.

Mei made her way into the streets of HK.

The plan is pretty brilliant, if you turn Blizzard characters into symbols of the protest, the Chinese government will ban Blizzard shite.

Which is perfect for the people in charge of Blizzard. It protects them by allowing them to not make a decision.

Doesn't Tencent have majority share of Riot now? I know they bought a minority share years ago, but I want to say I saw where they bought a majority stake. League has been sucking China's censored dick for years, and that's a game where China really does make up a massive portion of the playerbase. It would be a shame if the most populated country in the world suddenly lost access to the most popular online game on the planet...

It is a lose-lose situation.
People are forcing them to lose now.
What will Blizzard do? They can’t exactly come out and disavow the use of their characters in HK protests.
They’ll suffer even more.

I'm excited for the first time in my life for Blizzcon (starts Nov 1) because I'm looking forward to all the Winnie the Pooh outfits running around
