BF 2042 got me enjoying Battlefield again.

I know, sounds strange right? Which sucks because I've been a long time fan of the franchise and piss poor releases have been a reason why I've become so jaded.
I only tried Battlefield 2042 for a couple hours to get early access with EA Play Pro. Figured why not burn $15, right? I wasn't happy with the direction Battlefield was going already with Battlefield V. I even got BFV for free as part of a promo for buying a video card back then and only spent a few hours playing it.
Of course, in true Battlefield tradition we all know the game is still in beta by the time it's released. I should know, I was on a few BF betas, BF4 being the one I played the most and endured those bugs upon release.
Oh right, BF2042, how did I end up playing BF again. So I like FPS games and my friends got me playing CoD again. I feel like a cheap trailer park whore whenever I do but hey it's good fun. But I kept hearing that theme
dun dun dun..dun dun dun
dun dun dun..dun dun dun
Because I know in my heart I'm one of those Battlefield elitists and really miss the game...which DICE and EA continue to drive into the ground despite Activision doing the same thing to the CoD franchise. As if it's a race to the bottom.
So last week I decided to actually play the 10 hour BF2042 trial (thanks game pass!) since a whole lot has changed. Well, to be fair the game is actually enjoyable until you've played all the maps and it gets repetitive. Guns feel a bit better and unfortunately those stupid cringy specialists are there. Friday Night Battlefield last week with TDM was fun. Still, it just doesn't feel quite right.
But then I realized I still have Battlefield V and I played the hell out of it today. What was I thinking giving up on this game and never coming back? It's gorgeous and it's actually fun! Don't get me wrong, I still love BF4 but lets face it, the look while ahead of it's time then looks dated now. With that said, at least there's plenty of players on BFV to scratch that Battlefield itch.
Anyways, just my thoughts. I did decide to waste another $15 on Play Pro to play some more BF2042 because I don't learn my lesson and I'm a masochist I guess. On good faith I cannot say go run out and buy the game, it's in need of some content updates. Let's see what season 1 holds if EA and DICE don't pull a bigger Amber Heard they already did late last year.
Meanwhile I'm going to enjoy BFV.

I’ll acknowledge that you spent a lot of time on this post just based on the amount of text, but……
This game sucks. It sucks just as bad as the current state of COD. And it hurts me to say that due to my love of COD. But both games are in a world of hurt right now.

Oh, no doubt, the game needs a lot of work still. Portal mode has tons of potential and in my opinion should have been released as it's own title.
Honestly I'm at the point I wish DICE had nothing to do with the franchise, period. Frostbite seems to be a thorn in the side of other devs when forced by EA to use it. Take Anthem for example. Then how out of touch they've been to fans as well as a lot of turnover the past few years or so.
With that said, Battlefield V and Battlefield 1 populations seem pretty healthy at least and the former plays pretty well considering it's been out a couple years. I don't get BF1 though, I really enjoyed it and it was perhaps the least troublesome BF launch I can remember yet it didn't seem like it got the same hype.

BF 2042 is the worst Battlefield I have personally played. I would recommend people stay away from this unless you get it on sale for dirt cheap. This is coming from a long time Battlefield fan. I have been playing since Battlefield 2 came out. I usually hop on BF4 when I am in the Battlefield mood. BF4 is a good game and the graphics still hold up today. There's so many better options for modern FPS multiplayer games.

I'm with you. I didn't like anything after BF4 until this. It is far from perfect, but I do enjoy it.

The most enjoyment I got from BF2042 was when I uninstalled it.

BF is going to have to do something pretty spectacular to get my blind loyalty to the franchise back. I don’t think I’ve ever been as disappointed with a game than when I popped 2042 on for the first time. jesus they just ran one of the best gaming worlds into the ground

After not playing FPS for ten years, I started playing Battlefield 1. I like it, but I suck at it.

I jumped on for the first time in months this week and the gun play is a lot better, and some of the annoying bugs (loadout, revive, etc.) have been fixed.
Still no where close where the past titles have been, but it is better.

I just think it’s hilarious a “live service” game hasn’t even dropped season 1 yet
Do we even have a date yet?

Bf1 is the single best battlefield from a gameplay and map design aspect. I get it a lot of people didn’t really like the era and guns, but the maps, the gameplay, mother fricking grand operations (single best game mode ever introduced) we’re so fricking amazing.
The last DLC that dropped the Verdun grand operation and the Somme was by far my favorite DLC and maps of all time.
That game gave me goosebumps at least once a game.

BF5 got really good after the Pacific update. Problem is they were way behind schedule due to their idiotic advertising and woke design choices. Never added Eastern front etc. feel like they should've abandoned 2042 and added stuff to 5.

it’s a shame most people can’t get over the era the game portrays, because I’m with you, it’s the best battlefield game ever made and I don’t think it’s particularly close. if that title came out in 2010 it would’ve swept the award circuit
but now every AAA title has to pander to 12 year olds with a half second attention span

If you want a battlefield game. Try Hell Let Loose. Best battlefield game I've played since BF3. Also the community is great. Have good times on the mic in that game. Like olden times.

Console version just got a big update adding the Russians and a bunch of new guns, maps, and vehicles.
Will be on full parity with pc soon(tm)
