Correct answer. Even old crappy cards are going for 50 to 100% over MSRP.

Why are they so expensive these days? I wanted to do a new build, but I'm pivoting to an Xbox because GPU prices made it not worth it.

bitcoin miners, low production to keep price elevated, low production due to Covid, and bots being used to buy all cards then inflate the prices. Also doesn't help when a major company sells their cards directly to resale company to jack the price up and make a huge profit over the MSRP.
Lots of people sat out the last big card update because the prices were too high and now they need cards.
Perfect storm of bad circumstances and contrived shortages.

This is NVidia I'm assuming?

No. MSI. They have a subsidiary that sells refurbished goods but somehow they got brand new 3080s and jacked the price up. It was blamed on 1 person not following protocol. Sure. I believe that.

3060ti is your ticket. Just watch for restocks.

It was like seven GPUs, so I doubt it was an actual concerted effort by MSI

Bots are the biggest issue for all new tech.

Guess I'll just be happy with my Vega64 for a few more years.

I think it was either one, or a small group, of employees looking for some kind of personal gain. MSI is north of $1B in annual revenue. Scalping even a few hundred cards would have been such a drop in the bucket as to make the prospect absurd.

At this point, you're looking at spending $950 for a card that's 3 years old or more and that's probably the best deal you'll find.
You're looking at the end of April at the absolute earliest for shortages to be even somewhat resolved.
For reference, I was on ebay today looking and I could sell my used graphics card I got in early 2018 when I built a new PC and get more in return that I spent on my entire PC. I can't remember any other point in history where my PC was worth more than 300 bucks when it was time for an upgrade.

And I can sell my 3070FE for $850. Doesn't change the fact that I bought it from BestBuy for msrp.
GPUs are a giant pain in the arse to find in stock for msrp, but if it's important to someone, and they are willing to put in the time, it can be done. I'm not sure why people are pitching it as "impossible" just because you can't randomly buy it whenever you want.

That CPU is awesome. I’ve got the same one, have it overclocked at 5.0 GHz @1.4v. Perfectly stable and stays under 75C
