I have hardly played any video games outside of a few over the last 2-3 years. I've said I'm going to wait until they come out with games I can actually interact with (like throwing a ball, moving to aim & pulling a trigger). Has VR gotten good enough yet? I have never played any VR before and have no idea which is the most advanced or where they've gotten with the technology yet or if its still in infancy and worth waiting. I have a ps4 now and was wondering if it was time to get a PSVR or an Occulus to demo.

Anyone here have one already care to comment?

Receiving presents from other adults is so weird to me.

Congrats though!

I already have like 4 headsets, I have enough.

fricking Boneworks came out this week, it’s fricking amazing.

Screw PSVR, get a quest and then get a good computer and be able to do standalone with the quest or full rift and steam games when you hook it up to a PC. Can’t really beat the Quest for starting out since they did quest link to be able to run through a computer.

PSVR is a novelty.

I thought you said the Quest hooked to PC wasn't going to work well.

I haven't tried yet. Maybe this weekend.

I hooked up the Quest to the PC.

Took about 3 hours to figure out why the damn thing wasn't working. turns out they updated the software on the quest and the PC app and both needed to be updated but.... it wouldn't update the PC app until I figured out I needed to select beta testing in the settings.

Once that riddle was solved, the Quest started using my PC.

The only VR game I have for steam is Subnautica which is dreadful in VR or so I had heard. The reviews were correct. The menu boxes pop up about 3 inches from your eyes.

The good news. The game looked fantastic. Really good even with my crappy vision. I just swam around for a bit but I didn't notice any lag or problems. Not much testing but I am surprised how great it looked.

Seems like the Oculus link software works great. Now I just need to wait for longer cables to become available. The 6 foot cable doesn't allow for much movement.

They did a good job of it, it's by far the best newbie headset. My opinion for gear for myself is quite a bit different than a new VR user. New VR users don't want to invest like I do in VR.

I've used it with a backpack laptop. It's pretty great to play something in a big gymnasium and not have to worry about playspace. Really makes me wish Valve would come out with a wireless setup like the Vive has for it.

My wife got me an Oculus Go. Pretty neat. I found a 360 VR version of the stargate scene from 2001 and I’ve probably watched it a thousand times.

I picked up a Rift S about 8 months ago and have been on and off with it. Their lack of MMORPGs (Orbus being about the only one) kind of let me down (my fault for not doing more research ahead of time). I've recently (ie: 01/04/2020) gotten back into it in a big way with BoxVR (exercise-boxing game, to help me with the New Year's resolution on getting back into a shape other than "roundish") and Moss (a puzzle-solving game that's like being in a really well-done Disney CGI movie).

With all that said, I am wishing I had gotten a Quest for the mobility factor. The rooms in my house aren't all that big unless I move some major furniture, playing it out on the patio or in the yard (biiiiig back yard) would be pretty badass (especially for something like Blade & Sorcery).

It's not a MMORPG (just a standard RPG), but you should check out Asgard's Wrath. Really well done game and you can finally start to see what VR can bring to the RPG genre.

Quest doesn't need a computer, if you want to use Quest link to run through a pc, you need something similar to what runs an old school rift. Decent graphics card and processing power.

do you need an entire room devoted to VR space?

No but the more room you have, the better. I can play quite a few things in my office with the play space set to little more than an arm's reach in any direction. With some games it can be a bit tight (which forces you to get good with moving via the joystick) but it's manageable.
