Gotta give CD Projekt Red so much credit. This game could have tanked them but they have worked their arse off for over two years to fix it. Pretty wild that they put years of work into it and it still released in that absolute dog shite state.

Grenades and med packs “recharging”, instead of having to be crafted out of dismantled junk is one of the best changes I’ve ever seen

This game is going to take me forever to beat because I don't think I'll be able to do anything until I make like Batman and clear all the NCPD markers in the city
That’s going to suck a ton of enjoyment out of the game and ruin the pacing

Possibly. I also don't think I can do it all without a single main quest. I'm 21 hours in and still have about six crimes and 17 gigs in Watson alone (I played through meeting Takemura in the diner so far). Clearing the rest would probably be another 30 hour endeavor.
In my most recent Witcher 3 playthrough I did every single side activity in the game including Hearts of Stone and then went on the main quest and played that nonstop. It was actually interesting to play the main quest as it was meant to be told-- with urgency and madly running down leads.

That’s actually how I played Oblivion last time I played it. Just didn’t go meet Martin until I was ready to roll.
But I would draw a distinction between random map clearing (read: Skellige sunken chests, NCPD scanners, etc) and side quests. You’re free to continue the game after the credits roll, so that’s when I would suggest fully cleaning things out. Though obviously feel free to do anything in your path that would be immersion breaking to walk by without handling.
Also, large sections of the map don’t unlock until you progress to certain points of the main quest.

When I played it at launch, ignoring the massive amount of bugs and the game crashing every hour, I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
With the new update, I'd give it a 7.5.
It's still an example of a game where all the graphical bells and whistles in the world can't hide substandard gameplay.
The entire plot basically boiling down to waiting for some guy to call me back is even more egregious in the DLC.
I'll say again that I would have enjoyed this game a lot more if it was less inspired by GTA and borderlands and more inspired by Deus Ex

Brother I think you missed the point of the plot. I played a little bit on launch and wasn't pleased, but am having a blast now.

This just isn't true for the base game. There are like 3 instances where you have to wait for a call. And those are all side quests or gigs.

It's such a puzzling design decision. I had trouble following the story because of how disjointed it felt.
The main story of Phantom Liberty is much more streamlined in that regard, but after finishing about half of the main story missions, quite literally every remaining mission is preceded by "wait a few days for a phone call."

Started up my first playthrough. Made my character and distributed the skill points and hit the button to proceed. Screen proceeds to go blank and freezes. This is starting out well….

Works well on performance mode on xbox series x. I remember playing earlier this spring after taking a massive break from the game at launch. It's not perfect but highly playable. Missions are fun. Side gigs make the game much more enjoyable than most RPGs.
Just finished the Phantom Liberty DLC. Really wild way to get to the end but still a whole lot of fun.

Up to level 10 and this game is fun as frick. Wish I had more time to play.
I begin every gig or mission trying to stealth and hack, but it always devolves into grenades and lead.
The hacking sequence game is strangely addicting too. I’ll get over it eventually but I’m hacking every vending machine I can.
I like the skill point system (headhunter, Shinobi etc). Rewards different styles or play.
Honestly it’s all very well done

When the enemy finds you during a stealth mission:

1st playthrough, pre Phantom Liberty, I didn't bother with hacking. Just nades and lead. And I didn't do all the gigs and side jobs.
This time, i'm trying all of them. Hacking, slashing, shooting, booming. I mostly get caught during stealth because I am impatient. There are rules to doing distractions and i just use trial/error.....a lot of error.

I would advise not updating patch 2.01. Never really had any problems before other than the god mode and elevator issue. It has crashed on me twice since patching

I didn't realize it was out. I will take this advice.

AMD at least released a driver update (last week I think) that seemed to mainly focus on 2077 2.0. The combination of the latest AMD driver and 2.0 generated a lot fewer crashes than I experienced on my first playthrough.

I focused on quick hacks, health, and firearms in that order. Unlocking cyberpsychosis is so much fun to watch.
