Wait until you invite new visitors....heck of a material drain there too.
As in, your visitors draining your own items? Because I'm open to bartering some cherries to pay off this 398k loan

Not only do they take so many materials, you can only get one new villager to move in a day...

Damn, that actually sucks. I'm sure previous AC games were like that but I just don't remember. I went onto the randomized island via the 2000 Nook Point ticket and recruited some new villagers there. Actually did two today. So they will join on separate days is what you are saying, even in that instance?

So what is the point of inviting people to live on your island if they are going to turn around and steal your resources?

Slight spoilers:
Basically you have to visit three random islands and invite 3 villagers to come live with you. Once you do, the next day Tom will ask you to pick their plots out and to build them furniture for them. After all that is done. You’ll have one villager move in per day till all 3 are there.
Not technically stealing your resources but they require you to build 6 pieces of furniture for each new villager so 18 pieces for the 3 villagers on the first go through.

Because of my search for peach and cherry trees, resources are no longer an issue. On each mystery island, mine every rock and chop down every tree.

I do wish I did this. I was in it for the villagers not realizing how time locked they are.
Another slightly spoilerly pro tip:
Once you invite the first 3, you cannot invite anymore until all 3 are done, additionally, there will be no mystery visitors on Mystery Islands. So basically, once you invite the 3, it'll be 3-4 days before you can/should invite another.

First one moved in today. But now my mission (other than finding cherries) is to kick one of the first villagers off the island.

The fiancée had never played Animal Crossing before this game. She saw the reviews and bought it. She’s playing it like a crack addict

My wife has never been a video gamer, ever. I bought her a switch today for this game...

I can see why people don't time travel. Even though it's tempting to unlock and experience things early, it takes away from the anticipation of the game

I time traveled for the first 2 days and I'm not going to do it again. I actually like the slow burn concept, and with my wife having the game now I'm going to try to stay just 2 days ahead of her so I can help her when she needs it.
ETA: It was actually pretty funny watching someone who has never played video games trying to learn how to use trigger buttons... and where the start button was, etc.

Apparently for the day the 3rd one moves in, Tom nook closes his tent and you can’t access the ABD system so I just grinded out 250,000 bells in 2 hours to pay off the $348,000 loan.
