I wasn't trying to be critical of Mike's response. I was referring more to a few posters on this board who are notorious for shi##### all over Birmingham at the mere mention of the city. I get not liking certain restaurants but the venom that posters like andouille and a couple of other posters have even against the good restaurants in Birmingham is the attitude I'm talking about. The hate from them is ridiculous.

Every restaurant I've gone to in Birmingham that were supposed to be good were mediocre at best. It's not a food city. I'm sure it's good for something but not food. Mobile's food is better IMO.

What restaurants have you been to?

Hot and hot, Bettola, highlands, mr Changs, red pearl, chez fonfon, gianmarcos, bottega all could stand up to any in the region

Lol.. Have you been to Highland Bar and Grill or Hot Hot Fish House? Mobile is a cesspool of food.

I've lived in Mobile for over 5 years and enjoy it but this couldn't be further from the truth.

nashville is a whole lot better than it was when i moved here (1996) when i literally cried about how bland everything was.
nasvhille was known for...wait for it...
"biscuits"
wtf. so yep, i literally went through a bottle of tobasco every month. hated it.
things turned around when a popeyes opened on i24 around 2001..i was willing to drive halfway to murfreesboro once a month to eat that truck stop popeyes
now its a little better..but still not up to par with houston, baton rouge or new orleans
and pricnes hot chicken? WTF if i want something fried and hot i can do that myself. i like a little flavor with my heat..not just molten lava so your chicken turns red.
give me 'native spice' thai any day

Nashville offers a lot better food than Baton Rouge. No, it isn't Houston or New Orleans, but come on...very few are.
I love Princes by the way.

You're going to judge the restaurant scene of a landlocked city, located 500 miles from Louisiana, based on its offerings of shrimp, oysters, crawfish and poboys?

I don't think Nashville prides itself as being a seafood town considering it is a good 7 or 8 hours from the coast.
Is a poboy or crawfish the "standard" for good cooking? I've never had a good shrimp po boy or crawfish in Chicago, but does that mean the city isn't up to par compared to Baton Rouge?
And by all means, where the hell can you get a good po boy in Baton Rouge? Po Boy Express?
Nashville offers more (maybe not in a seafood) than Baton Rouge.

i gave it some props in the other thread..there are some good places here...but i really like south LA cuisine and having a hard time up here finding something to scratch that itch.
when 'south street' is the only place in town with whole catfish at $15 for 2!!...there's a problem.
this southern boy needs some whole catfish.
