It's not like we're hyping shlitz or heineken.

Dude, you're a local restaurant. You put your own blood, sweat and tears, not to mention money, into this. Why wouldn't you support local breweries who are doing the same thing as you? If you want people to eat local instead of at a chain, you're a hypocrite to fill your taps up with BMC products. Emphasize the eat local, drink local philosophy. There are plenty of local beers that will satisfy BMC drinkers, Canebrake, Tin Roof Blonde and Abita Amber to name 3. You've already committed to a Saint Arnold beer, so you could put on Fancy Lawnmower, Weedwacker or Santo and people would be happy. Not saying you have to have rare beers, just emphasize local beers.

booyah!

I said I personally don't get the love for Canebrake.

Canebrake is great for what it is. But if you read about it on here for months then try it, I can see why you might be underwhelmed.

Personally, I'll drink it all day at a tailgate party, at the beach, crawfish boil, etc. But at a bar/restaurant I am not likely to order it unless my only other choices are BMC, Tin Roof Blonde/Perfect Tin, Abita Amber, etc.

Well, if you visit Nooley's, I'll bet you a beer that you'll be drinking Canebrake.

I'm going to give you my opinion on the place based on what you said. (i know everyone is dying to hear my opinion).

I don't believe a daiquiri bar is going to work in the long run. Like some said, a craft bar with daiquiri's don't work.
I'm not saying anything wrong towards those that drink Daiquiri's, but they generally aren't going after craft beer. They are the BMC crowd. Daq's are for generally consumed by women because their tastes are not complex. You either get fruity or chocolatey. Craft beer is incredibly complex.
Would you try to serve nice wine at a daq bar? They don't mix. If i am a patron, and i want a daq, i'm not going to chase it with a craft brew, because the daq taste lingers on the mouth much longer, therefore every subsequent beer you drink after that will taste off. Therefore, tasteless bland BMC is perfect.

And i don't think that your place, if it sells daq's and bmc is any different from any other bar. Why go through the gauntlet of college drive to have the exact same stuff you can get at ANY bar, whether it be daq cafe or reggie's.
You just aren't catering to an older crowd. I'm 31, and i have no desire to go to a daq bar. If you are a young college kid, you may want to try it out, but after a couple weeks the newness will wear off and its back to tigerland and the station.

If I own a bar, i would set it up like Pelican House is doing, or The Cove. Craft and specialty cocktails. Hell, even olive and twist has craft brews, good wine, and interesting cocktails. All of these "niche" bars are becoming popular now, because they are different. The Cove, Pelican House, Olive or Twist, Radio Bar, all sell quality beer, good cocktails and pretty good wine. They also are packed during the weekend.

Just my opinion. Again, good luck on your endeavor, and i wish you well.

And I wouldn't complain.

I'm behind on the thread. Is Gameday's becoming a Nooley's or is turning into a different bar owned by Big Jake?

Good god some of you people are brutal.

The man came asking for suggestions.
Offered up his logic for what he wants to do.
Explained his concept.

And y'all have turned in to the beer nerd army.

Opening a bar/restaurant isn't as simple as let's just put this on tap. Lots to consider.

Was all of his logic spot-on? No.
Was it without foundation or reason? No.

Most places would love to be able to support local only, and maybe one day he can, but sh*t, any smart business owner is going to put themselves in the best possible position to succeed. If that takes carrying BMC, then so be it. He wants to push his food, but also have an inviting place to have a drink.

Passion and making money don't always meet in the middle...especially in a food/drink city like BR.

This thread is and .

I'm sure I'll stop in.

Hell if for no other reason than to see which 11 you ended up with.

And, I agree with Rouge, whatever Goose Head thing he was talking about. I want to see that on the list . shite after reading it 17 times I might as well try one. And he's right, interesting tap heads do push sales.
