I think SG will be successful there. Not because they are great or anything, but because they have been in Baton Rouge for so long that their name is ingrained in many peoples minds. Many people have an emotional connection with the place. Similar to Chimes and the success of their Chimes East.
Its really not a great location. It's surrounded by an aging population. And there's really no reason to be in that area unless you live there. SG is probably one of the few Baton Rouge restaurants that could be successful their. You have to be able to draw people to the area. SG should be able to do that.

I like it the food but I'm easy to please. It all comes out my a-hole in the end, so why pay more for less?

So appetizing, PP.

This is exactly it. As much as I'd love some random little bistro with great food in that area, a lot of places have failed. You need a place that prints money, and Superior is better than a WalkOns

So what are you complaining about here...Baton Rouge or Superior?
I'm sure it's both.
Can we just put a disclaimer at the top of the page that says NOLA>>>>>>BR and avoid the criticism in every thread about BR places?

I agree, it's ridiculous

It's well known that BR is overrun with average texmex places. I know that SG is somewhat of a staple around this area. But it isnt very good. That statement clearly rubs some folks the wrong way.
Honestly, the best mexican I've had in town (Besides Taco De Paco which shutdown) is Aztecas downtown.

Gotta disagree with you. Aztecas has never impressed me. I don't think it's bad but it's nothing special. If you think Superior isn't very good then what would you say is better (besides Aztecas obviously)

Yeah I was sort of thinking the same. At first I thought nothing will work right there but then realized that that sort of place will do just fine.

As I said earlier, BR is a wasteland of mediocre Tex-Mex places (similar to the fact that BR doesnt have too many quality BBQ spots). I can see this SG location being an okay happy hour location. But as far as food goes, SG leaves ALOT to be desired.

No. Not even close. Superior is average to below average relative to the BR Mexican scene (and that's saying a lot because the S. LA Mexican scene is abysmal), and way below average for other cities. "Oh, look, another shitty Mexican restaurant with bland meat, lifeless sides, and sugar water margaritas."
Posted on 5/20/15 at 7:17 pm to BottomlandBrew
Thats kind of my point, we keep opening up chains of bland overpriced Mexican food (Casa Maria, Las Palmas & Superior Grill). I'm not even asking for BR to have the same level of of restaurants as Austin or Memphis. But it's kind of absurd how much people praise SG as being good food.

We're talking the lesser of two evils, but I concur

What everyone seems to be missing is the money. All on here want some different local concept, mom and pop, farm to table, celebrity chef driven, infused casian or whatever the newest is so they can be seen at the hot new spot. Yet no one here seems to have a clue what really is at play.
The building housed Giovanni's for close to 20 years and it was a good restaurant and a good tenant until the police and the news media found out about the hookers and gambling in the wine room which closed it down. Since then, over 20 years, the whole building has been a revolving door with multiple tenants. The owner of the shopping center finally wanted to get a good long term tenant with deep pockets and a proven successful track record. In exchange for a buildout he gets long term security and the building gets repurposed. With ample parking and the location it will be packed on most occasions and is a win win for everyone involved. Including the haters of Tex Mex because it will quite probably ease wait times at Sammy's down the road.
It will take 1.5 to 2 million to open that place and not many solo proprietors can swing that, yet Superior can and during the long term get a substantial return on their investment.
It's just money. Nothing more, nothing less.
