Just saw a billboard in Lafayette recommending you add yams in the pot at your next crawfish boil. Anybody tried it? Reviews?

i mean, in theory you can boil anything you want; try it out on a small batch and see.. might add a new flavor.. idk.. i like dropping eggs in mine and hardboiling them

I’ve seen fresh sweet potatoes and people like it. Canned yams, nope.

I prefer an all natural crawfish boil to bring out the true savory flavor of the crawfish. I purge them in salt and boil them in just water then let them steam in an ice chest with a little Tony's for taste

Make sure to use kosher salt when purging. Iodized salt is not good for the crawfish.

We've done it before and it was good. Honestly, I've never had anything bad that was in a crawfish boil.

But the egg shells should keep any flavor out of the actual egg? What is the point of boiling them in the pot? I don't see how it tastes any different than a normal boiled egg in this case.

Because damn people keep throwing everything under the sun in the pot.
Before long they will just forego the crawfish

That is what you call a PETA boil

Sweet Potatos are good but leave them in big pieces or else they fall apart

Are you crazy? This is the absolute stupidest thing you could do.
If you want to do it right, sous vide with a little butter and allspice.

Yams are delicious with the artichokes and corn and mushrooms and onions and garlic and pineapple and sausage and chicken and cans of green beans and potatoes and Brussels sprouts and cauliflower and broccolli and asparagus and eggs and oranges.

I don’t have an opinion on yams other than it’s a sweet potatoe.
In other crawfish related info, my friend sent me a picture of her (no pics) local bar that serves crawfish in NYC. I said I would try them for reference, but at $20/lb I’m just going to assume they suck. That price is around what the LSU Alumni crawfish boil charges (assuming 5/lbs) so that must be the going rate.

Do you know the difference between a yam and a sweet potato?
A yam is just the word for a sweet potato that was grown in Louisiana.
