2015 was supposed to be a fantastic harvest.

Haven’t made it to the total wine in New Orleans yet. How is their old world selection?

There's a whole aisle of French basically. Not as much Italian but there's a good amount. It's definitely a good selection but obviously they try to steer you. They do keep some of the really good stuff but not nearly as much and it's locked up.
My sweet spot unless it's something I want for a daily drinking type bottle is generally $40-$60. I've gone higher but not usually.
I need to do a Total Wine order because right now it's killing me to open bottles sometimes that I'd reather continue to lay on their side and age.

Nice. I tried something similar to give me a passive option, but I don't feel comfortable enough putting anything but near-term bottles there. I monitored a temp/humidity sensor over several months and I couldn't ever get it stable enough. I'm sure it'd be doable with more effort, but just going to see what options I have at the next house at this point.

Yeah, we're looking to build or buy again once all this shite is over and when I do I want to separate the wine room so it has it's own temperature and humidity control. I lucked out that the room with the wine racks is very stable temperature wise and now that cooler weather is coming it's not a worry. I may get a small humidifier for the room in the winter when the are is much dryer here.

I just grabbed the La Enfermera Tempranillo for tonight $10 at Total Wine that place has cheap bottles.
I accidentally grabbed an Argentina bonarda which I've never had before. Thought it was a cab blend
anybody had this grape before? It sounds like pinot noir.

That Belle Glos is a good drop for sure.
I always try to keep a bottle on hand.

That’s the Cab Franc Petit Sirah? What’s it like?

Great selection of the big styles and varieties
Lots of Cab, Pinot Noir. Whole aisle of Bordeaux half an aisle of Burgundy.
Not a ton of the smaller varieties or regions.
Loire Valley is all Sancerre.
But they have a lot of wine I am not seeing anywhere else which is good for consumers and the other shops.
It’s not like it’s all the same stuff and they’re just undercutting them.

Yes! We usually get the Las Alturas one at restaurants but prefer the Dairyman.

Alexander Valley Vineyards is one I see at Costco and always consider but then go to my staples. I’ve become a creature of habit as I get older.

And what would you recommend? Since you find Caymus boring LOL!

Drink what you like. Caymus and Belle Glos are fruit bombs that appeal to a lot of people. Wine snobs think they're over the top and take away a lot of the nuance they appreciate in wine.
It's the same reason film buffs like subtle, slow burn, well paced movies and don't like explosion heavy action movies with mediocre stars.
In reality, both are right. Film nuts are correct that the latter is an appeal to the masses for entertainment and probably aren't very interesting or thought-provoking. The people who like action movies are right that they're fun and entertaining.
People drink Caymus because to a lot of people who don't spend much time on wine, it tastes really good. Over time, those same people may move past it.
