Anybody have experience with an online wine club?
Most of these seem sketchy but I wondered if there were any out there worth the money

There are some higher end ones - SommSelect by Ian Cauble (of Somm movies) comes to mind.
I've never done one, but I've always thought the best option would be finding a reputable local wine shop - which usually have clubs or monthly selections.

Wine country connection. You can have them hold your orders until you get to 15 bottles and then they’ll ship to you. It’s not one vineyard, it’s all kinds of wine. You get pretty much an email a day with the special. Sometimes it’s an ok price as in same price elsewhere and sometimes it’s a fantastic price.

From what I’ve gathered following the wine subreddit, those big ones that advertise everywhere are garbage. If it seems too good to be true, it is.
Your best bet is to pick a quality wine shop (like Helens in LA or Peoples Wine in NYC) and join their club where they’re just sending you curated wine from the shop. I also hear that Kermit Lynch is the top echelon of wine clubs.

Where you located? Definitely use a local wine shop.
As mentioned in this thread, the ones you see mass marketed are hot garbage.
Somm Select won’t steer you wrong, though.

Local wine shop or last bottle IMO.
They tell you when they have a close out and you decide whether it’s of interest or not.
It comes down to whether you are trying to save on bottles you know or get exposed to new stuff. If you want new stuff go to a local place and give them a few bottles you like and they will recommend other options you might enjoy.

I do Naked Wines.
It’s an angel program. Monthly charge goes to purchase wine so there isn’t a fee.
Quit when you want.
I’m no sommelier but we enjoy the wines, even the cheap ones.

The wines I got were not very good. They also aren’t sold in stores, so it’s a crapshoot what you’ll get.
I wish I had researched it before I did it because I researched afterwards to be sure I wasn’t just getting a fluke box and the wine forums said it was terrible too. Oh well. Live and learn.

I’ve been fine with everything I’ve gotten. But I’m fine with the less expensive Costco wines as well, so there’s that.
The Cabs are not like a 2018 Austin Hope but they aren’t $100 either.
It’s free. You only buy what you want. They don’t send anything you don’t choose yourself.
I’ve never gotten a fluke box and have no idea why anyone would ever do that.

Hey, fair enough. Just figure OP would want both sides. Naked Wines is meant for people who just like to keep wine in the house for cheap. Not sure if OP is looking for something a little more.

Appreciate the info everyone. Only a few bottle shops where I am and really only one I frequent. Mostly for new bourbons though. I’ll talk to them. Not really a wine snob but like trying different varietals so thought getting some random labels from a reputable club would be fun.

Vivino has started a wine club where they send you 6 wines every 6 weeks at the price point of your choosing ($120, $150, $180).
I used to do Winc which was really good for a while as most of the wines were $13/bottle. They expanded and started only offering a few at $13/bottle (most were in the mid $20s) so I was getting the same 6 bottles pretty much every month. Ended up cancelling that one.
