Their French Dip is something that I'd get in a pinch along with their Ruben weren't bad. It was their nasty seasoned curly fries that suck. An elbow dripping poboy is defiantly preferred but not while sitting in my truck.

Taco bell is my favorite fast food. I keep it simple though. Tacos, nachos, and like 20 packets of sauce

When I think of getting a poboy I really don't have any gas stations that come to mind. So please recommend one to me.
You must not get out very much, if you can't think of gas stations with good food. Here are just a few that spring to mind around south LA:
--Griffin's poboys; Raceland/Matthews, Thibodaux, Houma
--Banh Mi Boys, Metairie; Viet fusion cooking with a long list of poboys
--Danny & Clyde's (though some locations don't sell gas)
--Banks Meat Market, Banks St in Mid City
--Key Fuel on Rampart in NO
--Dolly's Deli on Canal, NO
The gas station poboy is alive & well, and delicious.

awesome place but not inside the gas station, but the building next to it.

I last ate at one @30 years ago. It sucked. Horrible roast.
Never went back.

Arby's used to be fricking awesome in the late 60's/early 70's. Actual roast beef on a killer bun. I think I tried an Arby's once in Baton Rouge. They were doing these health sort of sandwiches on a grainy whole wheat bread. The bread was rock hard stale. Haven't been back.

A good friend of mine managed the Taco Bell on Loyola in Kenner in the mid eighties. The weren't open late back then and I used to go help him close up some weekends so we could go out.
One particular time he had just got a meat shipment in and asked me to move the boxes into the cooler. I couldn't help but notice what was written on the box of ground meat: "genuine grade D beef (but edible)!"
I asked him WTF was that? He mumbled something about keeping food costs below 20% and him getting a bonus.
I haven't eaten at Taco Bell since that day.

I'm from Louisiana. I love Arby's.

I'll eat Arby's before McD's or Burger King

The roast beef is garbage but the other things aren't bad, like the Turkey sandwich.

Arby's products just aren't very good. Sometimes when traveling it's the only choice, but I'll get a turkey or Rueben.
Most of you don't likely remember, but in the 60's-70's when fast food started to boom nationwide, Louisiana was one of the last markets it moved into. Our local 'fast food' poboys, blocked the invasion for years, until the 'boomers' wanted it.

I've always liked Arby's, from back in the day (Louisiana) to now (Texas). It's probably one of the fast food places I eat most often, maybe 3-5 times/year.
It's been a while since I've had their roast beef though. I usually try one of their limited time sandwiches (Brisket or one of those Hawaiian options).
Recently I finally got around to ordering their 'Meat Mountain' off the secret menu and it was decent (also a pretty good value).

I suspect that was typical, once the brand was established the quality took a back seat to profits. Initially, Taco Bell used fresh and real quality ingredients and was the best “fast food” chain around. Terrible now.
