Williams seafood is not better than Smitty's. Not a big fan of the poboys there, although the Philly cheese steak is pretty good.

most people dont like real Chinese food
Most people, even those who think they know what they're talking about, could not define what constitutes "real" Chinese food. And even what a knowledgeable person might describe as "real" is likely a lot more "Americanized" than anyone would want to admit.
Fact is, authenticity in food is often a very nebulous concept.

sad, but true
I don't know if I'd consider this real or not because I've never been to China
But it's definitely not a place that would turn off American palates

Particularly with a country as large as China
That being said, Americanized Chinese food can be good if done right.

quote:Best I have had outside of Chinatown in NYC. I am not a huge fan of Mr. Ed's outside of the friend chicken, the one on Vets is better. I find the seafood places all solid, I like Smitty's because I don't have to wait outside of Harbor. Good latin on Williams.
Little Chinatown - Best Chinese restaurant in the metro area. Not even close really.

This thread turned out a lot different than I thought, a lot of people actually agreeing with me

I find Smitty's to be overpriced, almost bordering on the pricing of Bozo's and Sid Mar's. The last two times I've gotten boiled shrimp there, they were overcooked and hard to peel. But when they do it right, I've never had better boiled shrimp. Williams Seafood and Po-Boys is the most underrated and least known quality po-boy shops in NOLA. Never had anything but great po-boys there.

Good to know. I pass by there often. I think I ate there once but got a chicken fried steak
Is that the one on the west side of the street in the shopping center?

How is the 5 happiness on Carrollton? I pass by there often and it looks like it could be ok but I am not sure.

Smitty's is my go to for Shrimp Po-boys if I'm not up for Domilise's or Parkway.
Plus I can get cheddar cheese on them, and I like that.
I go to Kenner Sefood because its close and usually really good, I have never been to Harbor.

Used to be the best in the city bar none, but it has declined a good bit.

I haven't been in at least 5 years. It doesn't get the most stellar reviews online these days despite being a NOLA favorite for a long time.
I'll go again soon and give them a shot.

It's not as good as some of its die hard devotees will try to pump it to be, but not nearly as bad as some of the haters try to tell you it is either.
It's a decently good Chinese-American joint, in a relatively nice setting. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah I assumed it still had to be solid at worst

Also, I've eaten there off and on for about 15 years and I haven't noticed anything change in their food AT ALL.
I'm not sure what people are talking about with regard to that.

Some people just hear one person say something like that at random and then accept it as truth and repeat it
That's life

I'm bumping this thread and officially declaring Kenner to have the best Latin food in the area as well
Went to Mi Pueblito today per TulaneLSU's recommendation. Rock solid.
