Yes. Curing the hangover from whence it came.

ATII’s
Fat Harry’s
F&M’s after 2am

Except this was in the ‘80-‘90s. Not sure today who has the best.

Uncle and the neighbors probably didn't like the place because it was a popular and boisterous late night hangout for the college students back then. AT IIs.

Interesting.

Looks like TLSU doesn’t know as much as he thinks he does.

... 'O Henry's during the 1980s was a great cheese fry place. The Tulane Basketball team had a promotion on back of the ticket stub --- if the team scored over 80 points you could get free cheese fries at 'O Henry's.
Well each time the team can close to 80 points the whole arena rocked with "Cheese Fries" "Cheese Fries"

It was fantastic

Friend,

Several questions:

1. Did you work there?
2. Did you know the doorman (a Tulane student?) who was shot back in the mid-80s because the customer’s cheese fries were burned?
3. Is Uncle’s story about the cheese fries leading to the shooting really true?
4. What did you think of Shanahan’s cheese fries?
5. What are, in your opinion, the best cheese fries in New Orleans history?

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Shanahans cheese fries were as good as or better than AT2's.Now that I think about it the Boot had pretty good cheese fries too.

1) 1984- till it closed
2) & 3) this is the first I’ve heard of it
4) started in the kitchen and made many a cheese fry order. Quality depended on the fry cook and I made a damn good cheese fry if I do say so myself. There was a secret stash of premium cheese that we used for good customers and/or elite Mount Carmel charmers. The other key was to fry longer for a crispier fry
5) the best cheese fries were at F/M’s

All the best

1 did shanahans make their own fries in house?
2 what was the cheese shanahans used?
3 when did it close and become friar tucks?

LOL no frozen fries like everybody else.
shredded cheese from a bag.

Kevin tucker owned the bar, lost the lease and it reverted to friar tucks (which it was before Shanahans) for a short time before the building got sold, and they turned it into a drug store.

The last night of shanahans was debauchery at its best/worst

The shanahans brand was shared with Marc fraioli and others who also had a shanahans in BR. Marc owns Fred’s now

one of my biggest regrets is not being able to salvage the copper bar top from shanahans before they demo'd it, but by that time i had moved on and was unaffiliated. it was gorgeous

Beachcorner’s look good, but they need some chopped green onion to take this all the way.

I want to say they put green onion on their potato skins. You could probably ask for it.
