These new releases are getting out of hand. Just as I was heading home with widow Jane decadence, I got notification of a new JD SB dropping at cannatas. Decided to pass on the little book.

No, this is a single barrel store pick. That coy hill special release is what I'm assuming you have in mind. Definitely hoping to find one of those. I haven't heard of anyone finding one locally yet.

Whatever happened to JellyClownJohnson?
He used to be a fixture in this thread.

well for a brief window.

I did very much appreciate his posts

After nursing a hangover for most of the day I’m taking the night off. Had our whiskey club meeting last night and after our regular pours I broke out some of the aged eggnog. Oooff!

He’s still around. He has a lot going on right now, so he lurks for the time being. Yeah he brings good stuff to this thread and he’ll be back once his schedule eases up.

After drinking these all side by side I am surprised by how much I like some and not others. Most surprising is how flat the new Rendezvous is. When I drink it on its own I really enjoy it. Having it after drinking some of these others it comes off as watered down. Honestly it has my favorite nose of them all (very minty), but the palate is just… flat. It’s still good, but definitely is proofed down too much. It’s more like a $40 rye than it’s $70 price tag

Anyway my ranking from best to worst:

MWND a8s6 (just superb)
River ridge pick brandy finish
Acquistipace pick Syrah finish
Campfire
Wine seller macvin finish
Bourye
Rendezvous

All were good, and I was surprised how closely those two barrel picks were for me to the MWND. Rendezvous was the only disappointment. That campfire is still one of my favorite pours. Have a few 750s stashed away while I work on these 375s.

That was fun doing a full lineup like that. Will probably do again with Pinhook or another that I have a few bottles of. It’s neat to see how they all differ

I was going to ask about the rankings so this is good to see. I really like that syrah finish and haven't had enough of the brandy to adequately compare those. The biggest issue with rendezvous is they've moved to their own juice and it's younger. It's also twice as much as the double rye, but not twice a good. I still like it, but I'd take any of the double rye finishes over the current version.

The mwnd is just in its own category. So good.

I am in complete agreement with you. I’m not sure I will buy their next batch of rendezvous unless I taste it first and notice a significant improvement. As for the finished barrel picks I will snatch those up every time.
