I must be the few who doesn’t like mezcal. I’m being generous in saying that.

I thought it was one of the worst tasting alcohol drinks I’ve ever had.

Sorry to hear that. I love it. That old smokey wood thing. A bit like those peaty scotches
Yum

Pechuga - distilled with a chicken in the still. I don’t really know how that affects the Mezcal though

Well guys …finally completed my small barrel aging . Actually didn’t come out that bad . It’s an interesting pour that’s for sure. Would I do it again…. Probably not. This is what I did. I put the following bourbons in a small oak barrel for 30 days each . I then blended all 3 at the end for 30 more days . Then added some toasted chips to the end product for 3 days in the bottle and ended up with EARLY ROSES SR TOASTED. Weller SR, 4 roses yellow label and Early Times BIB were the bourbons I used in that order. They were all 1.75 liters in to the barrel initially and the last blend was equal parts of each (think i did 750ml of each).

I did a tequila and mezcal tasting at Martin’s a few months back, and I learned that I hated some and loved others. It really was a mixed bag, but the great ones were great.

1PD is one of my top favorite pours. Sure AE gets some hate, but I absolutely love it.

So which whiskey do you tell people (who know nothing about whiskey) to get you when they ask what kind of bourbon you want for Christmas?

I'm giving my mom a list to pick from, because if I don't, she'll get me regular Jack Daniels and some whiskey stones

Any way, what should I add or remove from this list. Keep in mind it must be easy to find

Old Forester 1910, 1920
Russell Reserve Single Barrel
Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve
Four Roses Single Barrel
Makers Mark Private Select, Cast Strength
Sagamore Double Oak Rye
Pikesville Rye
Redbreast 12
Balvenie 12 Year Doublewood, 14 yr Caribbean Cask
Glenfiddich 14, 15
Highland Park 12
Ardbeg 10

A nice Norlan glass, a whiskey bottle carrying case, and a set of glencairns with a travel case are all legit gifts too. Much better than some whiskey stones. I have a four bottle carrier that holds 3 bottles and my glencairn case that came with 2 glencairns. With that said, all of those bottles you listed are legit choices. Not super difficult to find and not super expensive. EDIT: I'd add Four Roses Small Batch Select, Willett 4 year Rye, Laphroaig 10, and Port Charlotte Heavily Peated to that.

All good bottles. I also like jack single barrel and barrel proof…I also like regular jack tho

I’m making a bunch of these for a client for their Christmas gifts. The OF and Manhattan are pretty solid bottles and go well in the freezer for a quick pull
