So MND is now $200 a bottle at Total Wine. That being said, i heard the quality has gone down so I am skeptical. However, I have a $150 gift card to Total Wine so the bottle would only be $50+ tax. Is it worth it or should I spend my money elsewhere?

Man that’s disappointing to hear. Last bottle I purchased I got from Martins around 2021 Christmas. It was ~$80. To me it has a really unique and pleasing flavor. I’ve enjoyed every bottle I’ve had in the past. Unfortunately I have not come across one since 2021 but I do tend to stay close to or right at MSRP and do not entertain the secondary market. As much as I enjoyed those bottles, I think it’s a hard pass for me at $200 if that’s the new MSRP especially with rumors that it’s way more available now and mass produced. I’ve been introduced to quite a few sub $100 bottle ryes that I’ve really taken a liken to. $200 a pop IMHO is too high for that bottle. If I were you I’d spend that $150 gift card in another fashion. Sagamore has a delicious line of ryes at a much more reasonable rate. Their Sherry Finish Rye (available at TW) is one of my favorites. Good luck but there really is no wrong decision as long as you are drinking!

The biggest issue is they've significantly increased the percentage of their own distillate. It's not bad, but not the same quality as the older mgp they formerly used. I think they tried to mask it by over finishing. Doubling the price didn't help.

They produced nearly 200k bottles this year so it's about 10x over the threshold of being limited. It's something I'd have to sample before considering given the above.

Thank you! I called TW today and they had just sold their last bottle of MND. They do have the Sagamore Sherry Finish, so I may pick that one up and another bottle.

The house has strep throat and possibly the flu, so I had a very large hot toddy earlier.

Made the Alton Brown clarified milk punch recipe and tasted it for the first time last night. Really happy with how it came out.

Pretty easy to do except the allspice dram has to steep for 10 days, and the final filtering of the milk takes an hour or so. But yields a pretty good amount that can be stored in the fridge.

Happy festivus gentlemen. It's nice to have good, affordable local picks. This one is tough to beat for the value.
