Do any of you cook with bourbon? Anyone have a preference as to which bourbon to use with meats?

Alright Baws, I've always been a bourbon and rye whiskey guy. I've just bought my first Scotch in years. I picked up a Belvanie double wood. I almost hope that I hate it, so that I don't pick up another expensive hobby.

The Balvenie Double Wood might be the perfect gateway scotch. You are done for!

Doublewood is very good. I have heard that Glenfidich 15 is a good gateway scotch as well

I've been thinking of venturing into the scotch world myself.. What's the top 3 starter scotches yall would recommend? So far I've really liked McAllen 12 and glenfiddich 12.

For bourbon drinkers, the Speyside whiskies work the best as a "gateway scotch" as they tend to be sweet, dark dried fruity whiskies. I would recommend trying some Highland malts like Dalwhinnie and Oban. Highland Park is not a Highland malt, it is an Island whisky and is the northern most distillery in Scotland, right next to Scapa. HP12 would be a good starter, so would Scapa actually because it is so smooth, almost too smooth. My favorite is definitely the Island malts, more particularly Islay. Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Ardbeg are all great Islays. These are going to taste briny and smokey. I would recommend trying a Laphroaig, the Quarter Cask would be a good starter, so would the 10 year.

Went with the Black Saddle

FPD - Black Saddle 12 year. Neat

SPD - BS on the rocks with a splash.

Not bad... Drinks like a 90 Proof. Have had better for the price.
