Whiskey tastes better out of those Glencairn glasses?

Pick up more of the aromas?

They don't make it "taste" better but make you get more out of drinking it. The Bowl shape on the bottom lets you get a good bright visual of the coloration of the bourbon (or what ever your drinking). The bowl shape and smaller neck lets you swish it around without fear of splashing out so you can release the aromas of what your drinking. The smaller neck concentrates those aromas for you to enjoy.

I am a big fan of the glencairn glass. Can't add much to NOLAGT 's explanation. They were designed specifically for drinking whiskey. Designed for scotch whisky to be exact, but work equally well for bourbon and rye.

I had never heard of them until I saw them posted in this thread. I bought some about 4 weeks ago and I can now enjoy my bourbon neat. I am shocked how well these work. I could never enjoy a drink neat in an old fashioned glass.

LINK

quote:

Decoding Four Roses Four Letter Recipes:

The first letter for every recipe is “O”. The “O” indicates that it was produced at the Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, KY.

Four Roses mash bill is the second letter.

E = The mash bill that is 75% corn, 20% rye, 5% malted barley. B = The mash bill that is 60% corn, 35% rye, 5% malted barley.

The third letter will always be “S”, which designates straight whiskey distillation. That means every recipe will be “O_S_”. The recipes become a lot clearer when you realize there are only two variables in each recipe, the mash bill and the yeast.

One of the five unique strands of yeast is the fourth letter

K = Yeast K: rich in spiciness, full bodied

Q = Yeast O: is floral (rose petal), spicy, medium bodied

O = Yeast Q: slightly fruity, spicy, medium bodied

F = Yeast F: is more herbal

V = Yeast V: is delicate fruit, spicy and creamy

1PD - Nice to be back home!

As far as the Glencairn glasses, they mainly help UJD from pouring 1/2 a bottle at a time in his pours!
