I get a whole lot of oak at the end of that McKenna. I'm pretty new to this whole game and haven't had anything like it. I'm gonna need another pour or two tonight to see if I can figure it out.

Try adding one drop of water to it using an eye dropper or straw if you don't have an eye dropper. Makes a world of difference.

I just found a bottle for $124.99 in Nola today. I'll report back after I have my 1st pour.

Yes...I thought it was just pretty good when I opened it (this, the trade of my second bottle). It has really opened up. Lots of fruit, caramels complexity....Smooth but not overly so. Definitely crack it then give it a couple months.

It's drinking a lot more like the '14 since it's had a little time.

Was at Trader Joe's yesterday for the first time and passed by the alcohol section. I decided to give this a try

Not bad. Only $15. Was worth the risk.

After doing some research this morning I found out:
quote:

Trader Joe's Bourbon Review The first thing you need to know about the Trader Joe’s bourbon is that they didn’t actually distill it. There isn’t a Trader Joe’s distillery hanging out in Kentucky where you can have a whiskey tasting accompanied by peanut butter filled pretzels and sesame coated cashews. This is a private labeling of another distillery’s work and that distillery is the one and only Buffalo Trace. Before you go running on down to TJ’s thinking you got yourself one hell of a bargain on some quality BT juice you need to hold your horses and hear the rest of the story. While the distiller is Buffalo Trace it doesn’t come from the same distillery that makes the Buffalo Trace we know and love. It comes from their Barton 1792 Distillery which makes their other bourbons like Ten High, Very Old Barton and 1792 Ridgemont Reserve.

I added a ice cube and it made a huge difference. Calmed that oak down a bit and I enjoyed it much better.

Already cracked my new bottles...both are exceptional.

Grabbed a Hibiki 17 too, but haven't cracked it yet.

Yep...it's definitely out. My business partner scored one from another place too. I was going to give him mine (he did me a huge favor)...glad I didn't have to. It's delicious.

You'd be better off letting us know what you're looking to spend and some of what this person keeps in their bar if you know.

The sad truth of bourbon right now is that this simply won't be sitting on a shelf anywhere around here anytime soon.
