In my experience, you have to trust the shop picking 1792, there are a lot of their barrel picks that aren't worth a shite.

Just did my first lap of the Metairie Total Wine. I've shopped at TW in Houston area many times.

I know Louisiana has a minimum markup law, so wasn't expecting to see prices as low as in TX, but some stuff was far off.

I guess NOLA is a good place for Rye?

Name ...................HOU .....NOLA
Springbank 10..... $69 .....$100
Bunnahabhain 12..... $53 .....$86
Ardbeg Wee Beastie..... $35 .....$45

Evan BIB 1.75L......... $23 .....$27
Rare Breed Bourbon..... $41 .....$47
Russell's Reserve Barrel Pick....$60 .....$60
1792 FP Barrel pick..... $45 .....$47

Sazerac Rye.......... $23 .....$18
WP Piggyback..... $45 .....$43
Willett 4 Rye .....$63 ..... $46

Hibiki Harmony .....$70..... $95

Foursquare 2008......... $80 .....$100

Any of you guys tried Sugarfield bourbon, new distillery in Gonzales?

I tried their 7 year single barrel bottle yesterday and I like it. Not sure where they are sourcing from...

I didn't notice the Willett 4Y when I was there. Might have to take a ride over there today

Willet 4Y

Is this a good one? I almost bought it at Saia's the other day ($42 I believe), but I decided against it until I get some opinions. My only Willet experience is with the genie bottle, and I was not a fan. My go to ryes are Pikesville, High West, Angels Envy and Pinhook. Figure this helps narrow down my taste in comparing Willet 4yr (I'm not an expert; I'm just a dude who likes whiskey and keeps trying different recommendations)

I wound up grabbing the High West Prairie Bourbon from Acquistipace instead, and I am loving it. HW Rye is probably my favorite, so I took a shot on the bourbon. For $32 it is difficult to beat.

I like the Willett 4Y better than those you have listed sans AE rye, but that bottle isn't in the same price range. I do like the High West Double Rye & Pikesville bottles as well.

Willett Pot Still is awful, so don't use that as your barometer.

I spotted it in the rafters and got the guy to fetch the ladder.

Been in town for just one day and already have a truckload of booze to bring back to Houston.

All those Eagles are that good TA juice.

this was a barrel pick organized by the "Louisiana Bourbon Collective" facebook group. It's been a year in the making and they finally got the barrel last month. I think they had someone drive up to Kentucky and drive the cases down.

I saw those at maisano's about a week ago. I can confirm that LA is getting them imminently. I cannot attest to the quality though since I didnt buy a bottle.

2 weeks ago the workers at Lincoln Road were talking it up, but I passed. Let me know how big a mistake I made
