I think we have discussed this before but here it is again - Open bottle shelf life? I have been slacking in my consumption and i probably have 10 open bottles. I pulled out an open bottle of JPS 18 and poured a glass, nose was lacking and tasted meh. Those bottles were known for shitty corks, so I replaced with a wine stopper to hopefully save the 1/3 of the remaining bottle. Boards thoughts? Have i wasted 1/3 of a unicorn bottle?

Yup agree with 3hr on this one
Pour the rest into a nice decanter, or something similar to whatever you use to store PMP in
May be to late for that bottle but for future reference

I use one with a lock these days
my 20 yr old as had a taste of the pappzzzz
I trust no one...

It's definitely a well accepted theory that the more air in the bottle, the more oxidation will potentially affect the spirit. LIke others have said you can pour it into a smaller bottle. I've also been slacking in consumption between work and baby. I've started transferring bottles that are more than half gone into small sample Boston Round bottles and labeling them. This has made it easy to bring them on travels and able to swap some with friends and such.

I’ve generally found the drink to be much better after it’s been opened a few weeks.

New bottles definitely open up with some time and air. The issue is the bottles that are open a long time with half or less remaining.

Yea you gotta wrap up those JPS 18/17s. I wrapped mine long ago thankfully.
