A coworker is retiring, and we are going to get him a bottle of bourbon. His wife told me that he is trying to get into bourbons but has struggled liking what he's tried.
What I am looking for is something that is extremely smooth with minimal bite/burn. Something that will ease him into it so he can expand in the future.
I was told Colonel Taylor fits this category. Any of you can confirm this? Is there something you would recommend as superior to this which accomplishes those goals?
TIA
First off, I would suggest scotch... lol.
Otherwise, I would suggest Eagle Rare. It is readily available, reasonably priced, and available in just about every liquor store.

I love this one. I have switched from Woodford to this over the last few years.

I thought about this. I have never had the pleasure of tasting it, but I've heard great things.

Blanton's or 4 roses single barrel are solid bourbons.Tell him to take his time and keep tasting. It'll come. He'll start noticing the intricacies within the diff. Bourbons.

Get a knob creek single barrel select. It's really an amazing bourbon for ~$40.

Never seen those before. What's the story?

Lincoln Road Package Store picked them on feb 29. Apparently Jamie Farris is a phenomenal barrel picker.

Are you still in town?
Unfortunately I'm back at the grindstone. Are you a 86259 fan? Next time I'm in town I'll bring a bottle to sample.

Mine are coming this weekend, what do think? OESK or OESF? Jamie said the K is a big sugar bomb, but the F is like 120+ proof right?

"Invested" in a bottle of 10-year-old Michter's Bourbon today. Meeting some college chums from '73 - toasting in style. Funny - the retailer was surprised I asked for it - not even out on the shelf - in a back room - limit one.

Made it to Louisville today. Have had a great time so far, I'll post some pictures once I get back to a computer. My favorites were makers and buffalo trace, but Woodford was some kind of beautiful.

KarlMalone, have you found anything good in the stores up there? Or are they just picked over?

How does that Elios compare to the Martin's pick?
