I've heard that statement about only wanting to expand if they can fully support the market
You need to direct a lot of this wrath toward the distributor, not the brewery. These are distributor requirements. They tell the breweries that they need X amount of packaged beer. When the breweries are able to fulfill that, that's when they send it. Right now, they can't fulfill that amount. I agree that it seems dumb. Why not send some, which will create demand for it? But I don't work for a beer distributor, so I'm sure there are reasons for it. Believe me, there are beers we don't get here that Nola gets (SoPro, Chafunkta, Gnarly Barley, etc). But until the brewery can make enough beer to satisfy what the distributor wants, they can't do it.
Be happy that you can get it on draft and get the 750s of good stuff. Hell, I know I am.
And I know Andrew has almost 90% of his fermentors filled with Canebrake. It's his blessing and curse.

Good then let's get this thread back on topic, your favorite flavors from the best LA brewery.

Good read, B. Thanks for that.
On topic, um, Macchiato wasn't bad. Someone mentioned earlier that Imperator and Bourbon Street are gonna be bottled. Good news, IMO

I never answered the original question. The Bourbon Street Stout was the best Abita beer I've had.
As far as regulars, I can enjoy a Purple Haze and Turbodog. Jockamo is terrible. Spring IPA should replace the Jockamo recipe. It's drinkable. Fall Fest isn't bad either.

Purple Haze and Strawberry, although a prefer the Covington Strawberry slightly

My neighbor gave me one the other day. It's pretty telling of Abita's previous IPAs when I took a sip and was surprised that it wasn't terrible. It's not something I'd buy, but I did have a second round.

Same thing happened to me at my brother's house. I thought it was good enough to warrant drinking a second.

Golden and Mardi Gras Bock.
Abita is a Munich brewery at heart.
And since Munich is the world's greatest brewing city, we can all rejoice for that.

Bc nothing says German brewery at heart like a lineup full of fruited lagers.

Well that's certainly up for debate

dude you know not what you speak bud. the reason he doesnt have bottles here is because his bottling line cantmake bottles fast enough to supply new orleans because beleive it or not canebrake is smashing sales of abita amber in some bars. Parish is going to be the scond largest brewery in the state very soon.
andrew had two choices, finance a bottling line or raise the revenue and pay cash. his beer is selling so well he chose to to finance nothing else. he hit the lottery with canebrake.

partially correct. the reason parish bottles arent in nola is simple. based on his draft #'s his current bottling line can not support demand in new orleans, even if he runs his bottling line 24 hours a day. high capacity rapid filler bottling lines cost around 6 mill, the you have to get bright tanks and fermenters to support that, so roughly 12 million. question is, finance or straight cash homey? personally, id pay straight cash. if you think im wrong about all this, please visit the brewery and ask andrew why his bottles arent in nola. he may not tell you about the finance part, but everything else is spot on.
however, nola will be getting bottles by the end of this year as he has his rapid filler bottling line being installed now.

abita was first opened by german immigrants who hated american beers so they brewed their common german beer recipe beers simply to drink their beer.
most of their beer are ales, not lagers.
purple haze, amber, turbo dog all old school german style beers

Purple haze is an american fruit beer and Turbodog is an english brown ale.
Is Abita is so German where is their hefeweizen or God forbid, their Berliner Weisse??

Cool. Thanks for clearing it up for me, bud. Seems like you might have the inside track on what's going on there.
quote:

According to Abita, "Amber is a Munich style lager..."
"Abita Light is an all-malt lager"
"Golden is a crisp, clean continental lager"
"Purple Haze® is a lager"
So out of their main lineup, 4 out of 7 are lagers. Then you have Octoberfest, Strawberry, and Strawator that are lagers. That's a pretty fair number, IMO. And most of their stuff seems like a pretty pronounced departure from the traditional styles. I'm not saying your wrong, maybe they started out that way, but it's clear they've gone away from that.
