New Orleans is my go-to.

Portland
Portland, Oregon, would be a real treat, especially if you and your wife are into beer, wine, or even a little mary jane. The food scene there is really impressive and it's just a cool arse town.
That said, I'd seriously consider Mexico City just for the experience.

Minneapolis features Butcher & the Boar
Start with their charcuterie (Texas Wild Boar Ham, Turkey Braunschweiger, Veal & Goat Cheese Terrine, Wild Boar Head Cheese) then move on to one of the best steaks or chops you've ever tasted.
A good casual lunch if you like craft beer would be New Bohemia. The RATTLESNAKE RABBIT JALAPEÑO sausage is awesome, as is their warm German potato salad.
If you're into craft beer, Minneapolis takes it seriously.
Lots of great restaurants to explore.

If I had a weekend trip with a free flight, I would go to New York and do a sushi/ramen weekend.
