Where to eat in Houston

Heading to Houston in a few weeks and looking for suggestions on a few places to eat. It will be 2 lunches and 1 dinner. We would like to try a Mexican restaurant, a Thai/Asian/Vietnamese restaurant and a BBQ spot.

Big city baw, where you staying?

El Tiempo, Truth, and somewhere in china town.

Hyatt downtown but we’re planning on hitting Eureka Heights, Spindletap and B52 so we’ll be all over. It would be best if the dinner were close to the Hyatt but the other meals don’t really matter.

For Mexican - Go to Hugo's and get the duck with mole poblano sauce.

Head to Pinkerton's BBQ after Eureka Heights, very short drive

I strongly suggest you look into UBPreserv for your dinner. Best restaurant in Houston right now in my opinion.
Do the Tour of Houston...make sure they bring you the collards and crispy rice salad in addition to whatever is on the tour menu that night.

El Tiempo is the best, Ninfas right behind.
For non Tex Mex, Hugo’s, Xochi (fancy), or even Picos
Bbq: Pinkertons or Truth...then a step below is Gatlins and Pit Room, and right below that is Brookstreet (gets shat on but I disagree)
Oldies but goodies: Barbecue Inn (fried chicken, ribs), House of Pies (24hrs)(favorite pies...bayou goo, french blackbottom, cherry, peach, pecan fudge) , Dot coffee shop, Cleburne Cafeteria
Honorable Mention: Ranchero King (for the big ol’baw in all of us)

I would weigh 300 lbs if I lived in Houston

Will only weigh-in on BBQ options:
North - Corkscrew in old town Spring.
South - Killens in Pearland
In town - Roegels on Voss, Pit Room on Richmond, or Truth.
There are other joints that get some good reviews that I haven't tried (Tejas Chocolate in Tomball, Feges in Greenway Plaza). Have tried Pinkerton's and there are better BBQ joints as shown above.

The anti Chris Shepard crowd will take issue with that

Interesting. Just figured there weren’t many folks who hate on him. I’ve loved every meal I’ve had at his restaurants. We like what we like.
Agree with you in UB preserv. Incredible meal. Spot on with the crispy rice and collards.

Feges BBQ is great but cumbersome location and hours (in Greenway plaza food court and only open for weekday lunch)
Truth, Feges, Killens are my bbq picks
El Tiempo for tex-mex
Abdallahs or Sayad for Middle eastern

Been waiting for someone to ask this since weekend before last so i could mention Lupe Tortilla. lol. We went weekend before last for a wedding. We met some local friends for dinner and told them to pick the place. They picked Lupe Tortilla. There are 3 or 4 locations around Houston. We ate there twice in 3 meals. Would've eaten it for the 3rd but that was the wedding. We got the "del mar" platter. came with crab stuffed shrimp, grilled shrimp, lobster tail, beef and chicken. (it fed all 4 of us). Handmade flour tortillas and corn tortillas were to die for. They also had this stuff called "seafood butter" you could dip your fajitas in and it was fricking incredible.

Not so much on here but a lot of /r/Houston types hate him. A lot of people got sick of him being the face of Houston food on every travel show.
/r/Houston is also full of millennials that feel that montrose should still be affordable since it was afford about 30 years ago
I loved my meal at 1/5th, GJ and UB preserve but I’ve only be each once.
I keep hey merchant in the rotation for beer reasons

As long as Tilman is in town, I think Chris Shepherd's likability score is safe.
