Taking the kids to the aquarium tomorrow and was gonna grab some oysters for tomorrow evening. Where at? Is the price much different than Baton Rouge?

You might inquire at the Gretna Seafood Lot.

Bevi in Mid-City on the corner of Carrollton Ave. and Bienville St. should have the mini-sacks that have about 80+ oysters and probably cost around $45 + tax. The probably have pints, quarts, half gallons and gallons for sale too.

Supermarkets have them, but they are opened in pint containers and priced like gold at almost $12 a pint the last time I looked-----------but didn't buy.

Really, any seafood dealer will probably have the mini-sacks available.

For clarification, it’s in Westwego... right when the expressway goes from elevated to ground-level.

For further clarification, it's not. If exiting the elevated portion to ground level, you have to drive at least 2 miles or more and it's on the left hand side heading toward Hwy. 90.

Yep, I don't know why I said Gretna - it's not even close.

Speaking of which, the next thing I want to try out is my own chargrilled oysters on my grill

So, anyone got any good recipe's or tips?

Many of my friends that have tried my grilled oysters love them and here's how I do them.

I take spinach or Swiss Chard, both grown in my garden, and cook it down till soft and then drain to get as much liquid as I can out of the finished product.

Melt butter---not margarine----add minced garlic, lemon juice, some parsley and green onions and simmer long enough for the seasonings to blend well.

In a bowl, mix equal parts Italian bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese.

To grill:

Get the grill hot, place the oysters on the half shell on the grill and let them start to cook just a bit. Then add a spoonful of the greens, a spoonful of the bread crumb/cheese mix and a spoonful of the butter mixture and let them cook till you like.

I prefer mine to not cook till dried out or they get tough. You want the edges to curl and some of the liquid to cook off, but not till the shell is dry.

You can get them at Fisherman's Cove, just north of i-10 in Kenner, brah. They have good seafood at good prices and you don't have to track all over town looking for it.

Awesome. For the greens, do you chop them up after cooking? If so, how small?

Just a bit. Enough that they fit nicely on top of the oyster and not hang over to burn.

Check the ingredient list on that. #1 is margarine. Yeck

But aren't you actually on BUS90 when you get off at ground level? So you would be on 90, heading to 90. Is it the nexus of the universe right there in Westwego?
