Is this something a grocery store would have? I’ve seen some things online. Is the meat ordered that way any good? Would love to cook two of these myself for a special occasion.

Any grocery store or butcher with a halfway decent selection of beef should have a porterhouse. Hell, I even seethe angus ones at Walmart although I don’t buy beef from there. I know you get them at Sam’s/Costco too. It’s a fairly common cut of beef.

The last time I got some is from calandros. I didn’t see any on display so I asked the butcher and he said come back later in the week. Came back and I got two at 1.5 inches thick. They were not prime but still very good.

What’s a good price point on those? I know obviously expensive.

Porterhouse is usually a bargain because you get a filet and a strip. With meat prices as high as they are now though...

You also pay $13+ for a chunk of bone.

OP download the Libby app and you can search all the weekly specials for your area.

I wanna say I’ve even seen them at Albertsons or Rouses. If you’re in BR, go to Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Maxwells or Iverstine’s. I bet the Meatatory in Prairieville would have them

Libby is an app for downloading/renting ebooks and audiobooks from the library. Pretty sweet but not really gonna help you find weekly deals.

Really should not be hard to find at all, anywhere that sells t bones , porter house is same thing with a bigger filet , if I remember right the filet portion has to be 1 1-4” wide to be called a porter house

Where are you located ?

A big porterhouse steak 2 inches or more thick needs to be ordered from a store with a good butcher. I use Iverstine's in BTR. After grilling or broiling to rare and resting, cut off the filet and the strip then slice both into 1/2 inch serving pieces. Arrange on a warm platter. You and guest can enjoy comparing the two parts.

Love Calandro’s, but I wish they were more consistent with the thickness of their steaks. They had a ribeye with a “thick cut” sticker on it that was 1” thick tops.

The butcher at Calandro's won't cut steaks to order? I'd be very disappointed with that...

They won't slice deli meats thin or shaved either.
