I haven't been to Pimanyoli's BBQ in Baton Rouge in a while. I have heard some negative comments from recent dinners there. Has quality/service declined?

What’s interesting about this place is that it’s always been at the obscure location since its inception. Weird spot for a restaurant.

Right next to Italian Village. Pimanyoli's used to be a favorite place for BBQ and tamales, it's not bad and disgusting like Podnuh's, but it was better. I was there this week and had the pulled pork salad, it was ok, but nothing to rave about.

So you’re saying their quality isn’t what it once was?

bullshite.

Maybe wasn't top 10 bbq in the nation, but was better than anything else in BR at the time.

I’m a fan of Pimanyolis, but we went there this past week and it was just okay. I’ve chalked it up to one bad day. But your post and this past weekend concern me. Me and the Mrs. frequent it every few months.

I go there a couple times every time I come back for a visit. The tamales have always been consistently great, and have zero complaints about any of the other food or service. Been about a month since I've been there.

False: couyan’s was better, smokin’ aces was better too. Both still are.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been there, but service has never been better than average. The bbq was always good in my opinion.

Love this place
Pimanyoli's sampler plate is the best BBQ plate in the city.. and their homemade BBQ sauce is great
The lemonade is also legit.
My wife even says their burgers are among the best she's had

Smokin Aces was Opie's when Pimanyolis opened.

Couyan's may have only been on the Westbank then.

10 years or so.

Found a thread on TD from 2009 talking about the tamales. And I dont think they had the tamales when they first opened.

The husband died and they closed one side of the restaurant. He was the main player behind a lot of their food and operations. If things have regressed, this might be a big reason why. We always liked their food, but the service has always been "just ok".

Thanks for the responses. It appears things may not be as good as I used to experience there.
