What's the board's opinion of Bayou Teche?

I had some Swamp Thing and Acadie yesterday and enjoyed them both. I also liked the Saison Ecrevisse last year. Karlos is a great guy and I really enjoy his articles and insight into pairing beer with food.

Never see them discussed too much in the "best/favorite breweries in LA" discussions

Drinking a Swamp Thing right now and I really don't have much to offer. I would order it over a BMC but not over any other craft option

Doesn't compare to BCC's fresh taps of Abita Amber, Blue Moon, Abita Strawberry and Canebrake

Last Swamp Thing I had was an unintentional Brett IPA. No complaints on flavor, but they need to get their QC under control. It's been bad for a long time.

I don't know the names but the stout that might be Xmas theme or something is good.

I haven't had much of their beers though.

I don't want every beer I drink to taste like a Belgian farmhouse ale. I get the same yeasty aftertaste in most of their brews. So when I come back home for a visit, Parish brews are what I get.

How is that possible? Don't you need to add Brett?

Poor sanitation practices on the bottling line or unsanitized bottles will pick up an infection that will either lead to crappy tastes oryour beer gushing or foaming over when you pop the cap.

I've always liked their LA 31 pale ale. And the setting of the brewery and tasting room are way cooler than Parish. (pastoral, rural acadiana v. an industrial park in Broussard)

Loup Garou is a great beer that gets no attention from people in this area.

BA Biere Joie is also pretty good

Lots of mediocre, uninspired beer. They like to hype their French heritage and call themselves a farmhouse brewery, but have hardly done anything with saisons and no intentional use of Brett as far as I know.

Two of the brothers leaned about brewing while overseas in Europe in the Army. And they like to tie most of their beers to a French/German/Belgium heritage. So you're going to get those flavors in most of their non-Stout beers.

Cocodrie, their true Belgium IPA, is actually pretty tasty. Their Saison that comes out during crawfish season has usually been pretty good, but the two 6 packs I recently grabbed were infected. Half of my beer pour was foam.

That honey ale aged is wiskey barrels is my favorite offering of theirs' and one of my personal favorites out of Louisiana breweries.

I do think what hurts them partially with their IPA offerings is they don't date their bottles. Never know if you're trying a fresh one or not.

Know nothing about this brewery beyond drinking some cans that made their way up here as well as reading this thread. Both experiences point to my initial impression:

Great concept. Poor execution.
