B&B Charcoal Natural Oak Briquettes

Lump is for grilling. Briquettes for smoking.
so much wrong in this statement.

If you read his further posts, he smokes on a komado. That's really the only application where using lump for extended smokes might work because of the low fuel usage and way they operate.
On a UDS/WSM, offset, etc. briquette is going to work better for a long smoke. Unless you like starting up chimneys of lump periodically. Hell with that though.

Centinel....I could quote a bunch of your lines in this thread, and tell you how wrong you are. The truest statement you made is the one about using lump in a kamado cooker.
I primarily use lump in any one of my smokers for smoking, and use briquettes for grilling. The exception being strictly using lump in my Icon. I have used briquettes for smoking and lump for grilling when it's what I had on hand, but the opposite is preferred.

How did it turn out? I did my second shoulder with the snake method and I was very, very pleased. Kingsford blue bag.

Just been busy traveling for work, bbq contests, and doing bbq product demos. I peek in periodically.

Good deal. Well stick around more. Someone always has a question about smoking.
On topic, I used lump a couple times and thought it worked well enough but grew up on Kingsford blue bag so thats what handles all my heavy lifting except when Im using the pellet smoker, obviously. Which lump do you prefer?

You want to use regular kingsford charcoal with hickory or fruitwood chunks.

KBB is a recognizable flavor that most people grew up on. I'm biased towards B&B Charcoal products. Their oak lump and hickory lump are great. It's one of the few brands out there that you actually get the wood that's written on the bag.

The OP stated he was cooking with the snake method. More than half the replies have nothing to do with the OP’s question.

That's not true at all. He just said he was USING the snake method and....well, here....see for yourself

I am smoking a pork butt in my Weber kettle this weekend using the snake method. I’m going to add hickory chunks.
What’s the best briquette charcoal for this method? Royal Oak? Kingsford? Stubb’s? Cowboy? Weber? Something else?

B&B Charcoal products
Never tried those but that's the pellets I use in my Green Mountain. Academy carry those too?
Posted on 7/30/18 at 6:21 pm to GeauxTigers0107
Academy, Walmart, and some Ace Hardwares carry B&B. If your local Ace doesn't have it, they have the ability to order it for you.
Posted on 7/31/18 at 8:31 am to Crawfish From Arabi
Academy has B&B lump. Usually just the oak but they sometimes have other varieties as well.
Posted on 7/31/18 at 9:53 am to Trout Bandit
They typically carry oak, hickory, and mesquite lump. Also, oak briquettes, oak, hickory, cherry, apple, maple, and I believe mesquite mini logs.

I guess the Academy in Arabi has a better selection than the one on Siegen in BR.
Posted on 7/31/18 at 6:42 pm to Trout Bandit
No Academy in Arabi, but there are plenty of other Academy's outside of the BR bubble. Not to mention that I might have a little insight on what and where B&B sells their products.
