what to do with used cooking oil?

After I fry fish or anything else...sometimes I am not sure the best way to dispose of the grease after I use it a few times. I usually just pour it in container and put in trash. Anyone have any ideas to share that you may use?

After frying fish, etc., I filter it by pouring it through paper towels in a funnel, back into original container. As long as good grease is filtered throughly, I've found that I just only need to add to it each time, at least for several cookings. I don't know any new or exotic ways to use old grease, just put old container in the trash, but would be interested to learn something new as well..

I just dump it in the sink but that's probably not a very good way to get rid of it.

Lots of people would pay you for it, so they could make fuel for cars. I'm sure you could do the eco friendly thing and put it on craigslist, have someone pick it up, and make a few bucks at the same time.
Going rate, 2-3 bucks per gallon

You could take it to a restaurant and ask if you could pour it in their grease trap.
They make all kinds of products out of it- including petroleum jelly, plastics, and- tell your women this one, make-up.
Down the sink will f up your disposal, plumbing in the long run.
You could burn it?

If you know someone who has a Prius give it to them, that's what it burns. Better yet, just surprise them by pouring it in their tank for them.

I do have some fat neighbors that deserve it.

For someone with a diesel truck or car, strain it and dump it in. A little will never hurt it. Plus everytime you stop people will say, "Smells like someones frying Fish!"
For year farmers have used a mixture of cooking oil and diesel, no problems with engine wear. FYI

My neighbors would just put it in a glass jar near the stove to reuse later. One for fish, one for chicken, one for bacon.

I tried that once. Dumped it on some weeds thinking it might kill them. An hour later my dog came in the house with his face covered with cooking oil.
