one of my favorite memories was going to a sit-down Chinese restaurant on the West Bank after Mardi Gras. It was EXACTLY the way you described. We did it every year after the parades. I actually have a clearer memory of that place than the parades themselves.

Go to Dian Xian in the quarter if they're still around. Sounds like it's as close to what you're looking for in the city.

1. Bali Hai at Pontchartrain Beach
2. House of Lee
3. Trey Yuen
4. Royal China
5. 5 Happiness

Nanking’s was awesome, especially when they stayed open late for the bar crowd. Imperial Cathey off Youree Dr in SHV is great

That's EXACTLY what I'm saying, LL ... that's why the word RESTAURANT was capitalized in the thread title for emphasis.
But dude had to decide to "food-splain" to me that ...
Dude, I live in Gwinnett County, GA ... I got more of each of the Asian cuisines you listed than you can shake a stick at ... plus Idian, Pakistani, Jamaican, Haitian, African, Afghan, Peruvian, Brazilian, Argentenian, Eastern European, any Spanish speaking country south of the border, you name it.
I'm just speaking on the devolvement and regression of the dining experience associated with the "American Chinese" restaurant, and the gradual disappearance of what I and a few posters here remeber so fondly from years past.

I was never a fan of Chinese food until I tried it at a place similar to what you're describing - sit down, family style meal. Now, it's the only place I'll eat Chinese at.
