When I started cooking basmati years ago, that was it.

Now, jasmine blows all other varieties away. No contest in texture and flavor.

Toro extra long grain. Unfortunately it's gotten really hard to find.

I like the jasmine rice.... I only buy rice from Rayne or Crowley if at all possible. Side note, the purple rice is grown out there too.

One day, I want to buy the big 50lbs bag from the Asian grocer, just so the old woman gives me a "what the frick are you doing, you crazy white boy" look

Different rice for different dishes.....Mahatma for basic cajun cooking. Jasmine when I want the rice to be noticed, basmati when I want a dry, separate texture, Arborio for risotto, bomba for paella. Short grain for when I want it sticky. Yes, I have six kinds of rice in my pantry....probably seven, if I bothered to go look, bc I sometimes like medium grain as well.

Never, ever, ever that g-d cardboardy converted rice (Uncle Bens, etc).

He is probably worried about that damn traffic getting out of the Garth Brooks concert. That’s going to be a nightmare.
