However my sister is getting married in 2 months...yeah I know I am shocked too

recently had a bottle of Balvenie 15 Year and would like to share something nice during the reception with my brother and dad.

If you like scotch, the supply of good scotch Is a lot better than the supply of good bourbon. Start your search there

I liked the Balvenie 15 year and would purchase that again or maybe the 21 year Portwood offered by them for this but I was wondering if someone with more scotch experience would point me in a different direction unless they thought that was a good way to go.

I’m not much of a scotch drinker, but if you don’t get good replies today, bump this thread during the week

My current top shelf has a bottle of GTS, a Johnny blue, a macallan rare cask, a 25 yr rhetoric, and a bottle of Jameson select I bottle myself in Dublin. These only get pulled down for a very special occasion

For a sipping type I highly recommend the Hibiki Santori Japenese whiskey

I would get whatever Macallan is within that budget...but that's just me. I think it's a pretty cool idea and hope it all goes well

$200 is kind of an odd price for bourbon. Not saying it’s weird that you want to spend that, but bourbon tends to be either moderately priced, or extremely expensive. There are some great bottles under $100, but they might not scratch the “special occasion” itch, and there are also great bottles that are going to be well over $200 anywhere that you find them. $200 on the shelf bottles are usually going to be something gimmicky. If it were me, I’d go for something like Col. Taylor Single Barrel, Weller Antique, or Stagg Jr (if you like barrel proof).

Go to a liquor store with a whisk(e)y tasting table. A $30 bottle can taste better than a $100 bottle depending on your preference. For instance, I do not like a rye-heavy whisky, so I would rather drink a $30 bottle of most bourbons over a $200 bottle of rye-heavy whisk(e)y.

As far a specific recommendation:

Hibiki 17 Year Old (Japanese Whisky) ~$200

I would be very surprised if that is found on any shelf. The Japanese Whisky has dried up in the US

I didn't like scotch much until I had the Balvenie 12 year. That shite was great. I'm sure the 15 or other pricier ones are great as well.
