I mean, that’s kind of what’s happening here
What?
People not wanting to support a business owner who mocked the untimely death of someone who wasn’t known to harm other people?

Mad that we actually have the money to affect businesses without resorting to smashing windows?

The debate over cancel culture is twisted. To be clear:
- If you are a public-facing person/business and you say the thing/do the thing at issue a) to the public and b) in the context of your business, then you should expect to get reward/punishment based on how your comments/actions resonate with the public you depend upon for your livelihood.
- If you are a largely private person with a livelihood disconnected from your private/small circle comments or actions, it's quite a different thing to have that entirely unrelated involvement/livelihood crushed on account of your Facebook post or text message. Especially so if in reality, your livelihood has nothing to do with reliance on public support (ie, someone gets you fired over a text message from your job as an accountant).
