What's with all the tomato haters? I wonder if it's a genetic thing.

quote:I think it is. Something along the lines of tasters/super tasters. My father had the best garden I have ever seen. People raved about his tomatoes. I would try one every so many years just to see if taste changed. Nope, might as well be a brussel sprout to a super taster. BTW, I get that reaction from the quinine in tonic water. Almost induces vomiting.

OTOH, I used to legitimately hate guac. Tasted like cleaning liquid of some kind. Over the years, that went away. Love it now.
Currently battling with certain hops, or maybe just high hop content in general. I find some IPAs to be repulsive. Again, like a chemical that people should not be ingesting.

just a texture thing for me
I've tried and tried to like raw tomatoes, I've tried all the different varieties, and every time I've had them, whether in a salad or on a sandwich/burger, I always think to myself "I would enjoy this more without the tomato"
I don't hate them, I just prefer things without the raw tomatoes

Mayo
Sour Cream
Most beans
American cheese
Cottage or ricotta cheese
I dislike mushrooms and olives but I'll normally just eat around them, they don't really gross me out. Same for a lot of beans, but I won't eat a bean burrito or something similar.

My wife claims that coconut makes her jaws hurt...no idea how that happens

Interesting... I actually did the test and am a super taster... Pretty sure cilantro is one of those, too, cause it smells and tastes awful. But I've always loved tomatoes and Brussels sprouts. Can't drink anything with quinine or the least bit of aspartame in it.
I love bitter tastes, so with hops the more the merrier, within reason. Used to detest squash, but can enjoy it grilled now.
