That's not helping your cause. That video is making me less interested in it.

They don't offer dine-in. I'm telling you, it's awesome. Their success proves that, and other copycats (such at Beto's in Pittsburgh) prove that. People actually like the cold toppings. Check it out...

People also like McDonalds. This cold topping pizza looks and sounds terrible.

I love pizza so I looked this one up since you were touting it. It appears to me the reviews indicate if you grew up eating this you love it but if you come in from another city it's not a hit.

Did not copy the poor and terrible reviews, just average

"Unique concept; not a conventional pizza
My family stopped at DiCarlo’s Pizza in Wheeling on our way home to Maryland. It seems to be a real local favorite, based on the reviews. The individual ingredients were quite good and the price was reasonable. However, the only part of the pizza that is fresh baked is the crust, which was very good. The sauce is applied after the crust has been baked. The cheese and toppings are applied cold onto the pizza and are not heated or melted in the oven. I have never seen this approach for pizza before. Our kids were not happy. We took some pieces home, and they tasted much better after going through the baking process in our oven. I don’t want to criticize a local favorite and I do appreciate their creative approach. I’ll just say that if you want to try this unique approach, have at it. But if you are looking for conventional baked pizza, maybe you can ask them to fully bake the pie.

call ahead or dont go
Like most pizza joints . Good crust. They put the cheese on after they cook the pizza was not a fan, but a lot of people where. If you don't call a ahead the wait could be hour+ orders are takin in order in house or delivery, so even if they our empty in house u have to wait behind all call ins

Great pizza, but that's it!
Pizza is unique with cheese placed on the pizza after the pizza comes from the oven. I've never seen any of the staff ever clean off a table. My wife will pull hand-sanitizer from her purse and clean off our table. We've hardly ever had a clean table upon arrival. It is always extremely busy if you plan on stopping before a Wheeling Nailers' game. I've been there when it hasn't been busy, and we've had a long wait also. Staff appearance is a little "iffy". Sometimes I wonder if the great pizza offsets the other negatives.

Waited in line for 30 minutes for this garbage
So I work alot in the northern panhamdle area. I've seen the ads, read the reviews. Then a friend is like u should try DiCarlos pizza. Figured why not. I'm from central Pa. Pizza is king and I can go to 2 dozen pizza shops in the area and get an amazing pie. So I call dicarlos. I want to order a pizza. I'm scolded. We don't do that here. How many slices? I'm like how big are they? I'm told to come look. Really? But I'm still curious as one of my favorite pizza shops. Mr. Pizza in Shamokin, pa sells by the cut so I was hoping it was comparable. So I get there and there is at least 30 people in line. I was number 43 at the time and they were serving #25. I was excited. Thought I did the right thing. Looks like people love this pizza. So I get 8 cuts. Get back to my hotel eager to rip into one. I notice they aren't a fan of cheese. Barely any on the pie and it's half baked which is disgusting. So I take a bite and within 5 seconds and baffled how anyone enjoys this pizza? The crust is nice and crispy but there's absolutely no flavor. How about some anise or something in your crust. The sauce is bleh. At least it wasn't sweet sauce. The little bit of cheese is cold. Pepperoni is cold. All in all this is one of the 3 worst pizzas I've ever eaten. I don't get it. But then again I'm spoiled. Between the coal regions of pa up through old forge (the fictional pizza capital of the country) I guess I just have different standards. The service and taste just guarantee I won't be back.

Decent pizza
I went there late and just wanted a slice. Their prices for full pizzas was not cheap. The place has some history and is a very nice place but the slice of pizza was not all it was cracked up to be. The crust was really good and the sauce was great but they just threw a couple of slices of pepperoni on at the end. I was not impressed but I thick I will give another chance.

Elm Grove Location...crazy....
I had heard all week long that I needed to go to the Dicarlos over on Elm Grove. Even when I went to the MedExpress and asked about where to go locally to get something to eat by the time I left the whole office was talking about this place so I knew I had to try it. I didn't call ahead like they suggested boy what a mistake.

I walk into the place and there were about 30 people waiting already. Some had driven 30 minutes to get there. It was pretty intimidating for somebody who had never been there before. They do not take credit or check they only take cash however, they have an ATM machine conveniently located right there in the lobby. There are no deliveries and no place to eat on site.

When making small talk with some of the customers right there it was as though this was the crack cocaine of pizzas lol. All they do is ask you what you want and give you a number whether you call or go in.

I must say I didn't mind the wait too much because it was pretty amazing just watching them crank out these pizzas. They are made in big square pans with sauce and a little cheese to melt on it. Then they put pepperoni and sprinkle cheese on top, cut it up and sell it by the slices. I waited there for close to 45 minutes to an hour for four slices.

The crust was a thinner almost a biscuity type crust that was crispy on the bottom. Somebody suggested that I buy an extra bag of cheese so I did. I think the sauce was made with fresh ingredients however it wasn't anything spectacular but, I did eat all four slices. I recommend everybody going there at least once however ..do call ahead.

The video you linked later shows people eating at what appears to be Betos, so there is a place that serves this pizza as dine in

Correction: DICARLOS does not offer dine-in.

you're probably right. I mean, down here I see people touting Pastime and Mandina's and some other places that I find to be pretty mediocre. It has a lot to do w/ nostalgia.

I also disagree with the review that says they're not cheap. A couple years ago I ordered an entire tray (24 slices) w/ pepperoni and it was only $16.80 + tax

that's the kind of video they make for a place that serves shite like a burger with 5 full lbs. of melted cheese on top, or a place that serves a full gallon on pho at a time. It all just looks stupid and unnecessary to me...like that pizza

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, and I respect it... but considering they’ve been open for 50+ years I think they’re doing pretty well for themselves

I think that Beto’s kinda goes overboard with the concept because they smother it with cheese and toppings. But then again Beto’s isn’t on my list of favorites. DiCarlos puts just the right amount, and their cheese isn’t shredded, but rather “crumbled” provolone (hard to explain).

Yep, I agree. It doesn't look good to me but if others like it then cool.

But I do go back to my previous post. McDonald's does really well also and people seem to like it...doesn't make it good hamburgers

But again, that's your opinion. I'm sure there are others who think McDonalds is great. Their success doesn't lie.

Petti's- Wickliffe OH
Angelo's- Lakewood OH
Stancotto's- Parma OH...the white sauce pizza with italian sausage, anchovy and onion is glorious

Pizza is about the only thing they do better at here by a long way.
