What are your favorite brands of San Marzano tomatoes?
Inspired by a recent thread where a poster said he had found what he thought was the best brand on the market. Lately I have been on a tomato/red sauce kick and realize that I really have not tried a very good variety of different San Marzano tomatoes. I usually just buy what is on the shelf in whatever grocery store I am in. More often than not it is cento. I am looking to experiment with a few different brands over the next week or so. Looking for suggestions of brands that can mainly be found at grocery stores and not have to be ordered though I am open to that as well. Tia.

I don't know that I've ever seen anything other than Cento or Kroger brand at the Kroger I go to

I use Cento's as well but they're California Peeled Tomatoes are just as good and cheaper.

Cento or Muir Glen.

I got some actual DOP San Marzanos a few weeks back and honestly couldn't tell any difference from my go-to Cento.

America's Test Kitchen likes SMT brand. The can is mostly white and different trim colors designate whether the contents are whole, diced, etc.

They are grown in the US Midwest from San Marzano seeds. They are really good, but actually almost as pricey as the imported and certified brands.

ETA: You have to be careful with Cento brand San Marzanos. Some are certified and come from the San Marzano region.

They also have San Marzanos that are not certified. The labels look almost identical; you have to pay attention.

I have noticed that on the Cento brand.

Where do you buy the white can brand?

If I remember reading correctly, even the non-certified Cento tomatoes are still the same variety as the DOP ones, but are grown in their main production area just outside the DOP region.

I have two children that work part-time at Fresh Market. I'll have them keep an eye out. I get a 20% discount.

BTW - the chicken Parm meal deal right now is pretty good. You get breaded chicken, sauce, cheese, bread, and salad for $20.

Btw, the tomatoes the poster said he found from California are incredible and I like them better than the Marzano brand.
