I don't think anyone complains about the ice cream coming out of Ohio.
Graeter's and Jeni's are both very good. Handel's as well.
I'm not a big ice cream guy but even I know they are good

I’ve also heard the chili itself isn’t that good. Apparently a significant amount of cinnamon is used.

I could see this. I once ordered spaghetti with meat sauce at a Greek restaurant and the sauce was just strange to me. Nothing like a traditional spaghetti meat sauce you would get at an Italian restaurant.
I’ve changed my mind. Don’t even need to try it without the spaghetti.

Chili on spaghetti works well, especially if you consider the Skyline style isn't like a traditional chili, it's just a meat sauce.
The Skyline chili uses cinnamon, allspice, and yeast. Greece is close to Italy. The owner from Greece made a meat sauce like Italians but used his Greek flavors. The story is he made his version of a bolognese sauce.

You’re spot-on here. It’s the misnomer of chili that throws everyone off.
Not to mention, the chain versions are mid at best.
I make a stout version of Cincinnati “chili” at home and it’s off the charts good. I put a multiplier of 5 on every spice, and the baker’s chocolate gives it a unique umami quality.
Too bad so many are dismissive. It’s very good when made at home. Skyline is a sucky rendition.
My defense of it for years has been: “it is not chili! It is a Macedonian meat sauce!”
Those will probably be my last dying words.

Yep, the best thing you can do is take hot dog chili and try it on spaghetti. Add fresh grated cheddar cheese and diced onions and it works great.
The Ohio chili is just a meat sauce, it's not like a Texas chili at all.

Agree. Cheese and raw chopped onion w the sauce and noodles.
It’s a quality dish.
But not a surrogate for Texas chili. they’re separate entities
