***PRO TIP ALERT*** Go to Walmart on a weeknight after 8pm. Use the SELF CHECKOUT.
Our self checkout is only open until a certain time, and then you're at the mercy of the only line or two that is open, stuck behind ten people who do their shopping for a week. You would think that shopping at off hours like 1am would be easier but I've been in line for over 20 minutes at times.

Yeah it's a great service. I'll use it every two weeks. I still get my produce and meats from costco/rouses though.

Cuts my shopping time by a lot and minimizes unnecessary spending by seeing and buying shite I don't need in-store.

So for those who have used it, is there tipping involved? I usually don't tip the girls at the checkout lanes, but perhaps loading up an SUV with 300lbs of stuff may warrant a couple extra bucks.

I have a friend that uses it all the time.

Ran into him at home Depot just walking around because his groceries weren't ready yet.

They aren't allowed to take tips, and when I Googled it when I started, I saw employees practically begging people not to tip because it is awkward and they will get fired if they take it.

That said, I get out and help load. Just picked up ~10 minutes ago and had a 20lb bag of dog food and 2 cases of drinks. Wasn't about to make the lady load that in while I sit in the car.

So I just looked at Walmart about this and it says my pickup location is 615 Veterans Blvd. That's the site of a closed Whitney bank with drive-thrus and all.

Is this correct? There can't be much space there for inventory. Do they deliver from a bigger store for me to pick it up there?

I've just checked my Lafayette Walmart situation. My local Walmart on Ambassador doesn't offer this, but the Pinhook location does. It would take a drive across town...meh.

Idk about tipping, but I'm awkward as shite and can't just sit in my car. I get out and help load everything myself.

Why? So you can get home to find out that a good number of your items that you purchased are expired?

That's you being a dumbass and not looking beforehand clown. And I've never had this happen.

Yes, it's a new pick up only location. I heard an ad on Pandora and was like, 600 block of Vets???? Not sure if open yet. It wasn't open when I drove past Friday evening.

We don't have Wal-Mart's in Portland, for the most part. We have a few of the Neighborhood Markets and a couple of Wal-Mart's out in the country, but Fred Meyer is the local superstore that has the market cornered.

Safeway is doing the grocery pickup thing, but we haven't used it. My wife likes shopping at New Seasons and Market of Choice because they have a lot of organic stuff. I like shopping there because they have good beer on tap. Both of those stores are significantly cheaper than Whole Foods.

The difference in quality of these two Walmarts is astounding. I live closer to the Amb but work near the Pinhook one and run in both for items from time to time. I just wait to go before/after work if I have to.

I can and do catch it before I buy the items. However, to think that a worker will do that for you before the groceries are bagged and brought into your home is a ridiculous way of thinking with today's minimum wage worker.

And if you think everyone is going to check expiration dates before they leave the parking lot is also ridiculous as well since many are opting and paying for the convenience of getting in and out of there as quickly as they can.

Let me guess, you found a spot on a bell pepper one time and now all produce at all Rouses are shite, right?

You nailed it. Plus many other items that usually come in a box or wrapping. Pre-packaged and refrigerated.

I catch it, because I look. However, if the store employees are doing their job, they would remove those expired items from their shelves pro-actively.

I once said I would never return to Wal Mart and am willing to pay the extra cost to go anywhere else....This has me re-thinking things. Going to download this app and see what its all about.
