Looks like the food delivery business just got smaller with ASAP (formerly waitr) shutting down. WAFB

How terrible must their leadership have been? A few years ago they were a much better option than DoorDash to UberEats, and now they are done.

The app says they're already closed.

Louisiana is too small of a market for a delivery app. You need a larger population center (NYC, Chicago, LA) to be able to sustain long term sustainability.

They did fine for a good stretch. But they keep increasing the costs which made it go from an app of convenience to an app of frustration. About a year ago I went to order from the Chinese restaurant restaurant we always get take out from. It was pouring down outside so decided to order on waitr. Our order that is usually $45 was $100 after tip was factored. I canceled the order and called the restaurant and just picked up. The owner said she tells everyone not to order from Waitr if they can help it. She said they had to list the prices higher on the app because of what Waitr charged them. They soon ended their relationship with the app.

We have never gotten into the food delivery app game. I guess we’re too cheap.

in the beginning i was pretty reasonable price wise.

now though, after all the fee's and tips and shite you damn well could almost buy your meal over again.

i went from a frequent user to almost never now.

Same. Even when it was more reasonable, there were only 1 or 2 times when we actually used it. I don’t even use pizza delivery, though, so there’s that

I mentioned this in the thread on the OT, but the former CEO and his son just got $4.6million in funding to start an SaaS guided hunting trip app

quote:

HOUSTON, March 18, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mallard Bay, the fastest SaaS-enabled marketplace for hunting and fishing adventures, today announces the closure of its $4.6 million Series A funding round. Led by Soul Venture Partners, the round also saw follow-on investments from existing investors Acadian Capital Ventures, along with contributions from a variety of new and existing angel investors.

quote:

"As passionate sportsmen and women ourselves, we're thrilled about this funding milestone for Mallard Bay. Our leading SaaS GuideTech product is revolutionizing the outdoor experiences industry, simplifying the process of booking hunting and fishing trips for both outfitters and enthusiasts. We recognized a need for improvement in this area, and we're grateful for the support of our investors, including Soul Venture Partners and Acadian Ventures. With this Series A funding, we're poised to spearhead further innovation in the outfitting industry," said Logan Meaux, CEO and Co-Founder of Mallard Bay.

FML. This is an investor play. Does anyone mention that Craigslist, DoorDash, the Little Caesar's app, they're all SaaS? Gmail is SaaS, VRBO is SaaS, and now it's news on this hunting app in 2024 somehow unique in scraping revenue from service providers and service users as an intermediary.

Total bullshite. And I'm sure it will probably make a ton of money.
