I thought the same thing about Walk Ons in Baton Rouge. It's Lafayette location is no where near a college campus and still stays packed. I think Chimes will do well but it might put a couple other sports bars in the area out of business.

I could see them putting a big hurt on the Tap Room with their proximity and having better food and more beer options. Pete’s as well

Do people from Baton Rouge really think Chimes is good food?

Yep. I've been eating there for damn near 30 years. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal. Pork chops, burgers, chargrilled oysters, red beans, fried seafood, brunch, salads with remoulade dressing - all excellent. The food quality there is much better than Walk-On's.

I don’t know about Pete’s because it’s a different end of town and a bit different clientele. Tap Room? Absolutely. Last time I went to TR was two years ago, and I was appalled by the lack of local beer options on draft. I’d rather just go have beers at Social with their local selection.

If Chimes carries a bunch of Parish, Bayou Teche, Nola, Gnarly with prices the same as Tap Room, that with the food options could put that place in a hurt.

Yep and they kill it in a location that Couchon couldn’t survive in

But wasn’t Couchon’s thing to sell “high end” rice and gravy and other dishes that people in the Acadiana area cook themselves at home all the time?? I seem to remember something like that. Such a model at the price points they had in Lafayette was never going to work.

A Chimes? That would be awesome. My wife and I always joked that if they ever opened a Chimes in Laffy, it would be across the world from us, and it will be. Ill still be there all the time.

You nailed it. In Lafayette every gas station has boudin, hog head cheese, etc

walk ons is very mediocre.

We'll see if The Chimes can make a better showing.

Lafayette Food >>> BR Food

I don't disagree that Walk On's food is mediocre....but isn't the one in Lafayette pretty busy? If Lafayette food is so much better, why is it turning a profit?

And The Chimes' food is 100% better. It will make a killing in Lafayette.

Billy’s, Nunu’s, Earl’s, Johnson’s, Billeaud’s all blow Couchon’s out the water, and for cheaper.

Because it’s a sports bar selling local beer, not bad food, with an atmosphere and has a reputation and following. I think ESPN 1420 does events there too.

Yep. Pretty much. They also had a few eclectic offerings but it was mostly Cajun staples that were sold at a premium. (Needed to cover the expensive river front real estate in river ranch)

I brought that up in the context of BR restaurants being able to make it in Lafayette. If they are executed properly, they definitely can.

I think the Chimes will do very well

Lafayette people drive to Baton Rouge to eat at PF Chang’s. Says a lot.

PF Changs would have a day 2 wait with women lined up for miles if it opened in Lafayette.

I was just joking.... he’s from New Iberia originally

The “Lafayette needs a PF Chang’s” has been a discussion for a long time. Probably a market size consideration

I It will be a tight fit as I assume they will preserve all those beautiful oaks. Can't wait, walkable distance from my house.

You won't be able to set foot in that Chimes for 6 months after it opens. It will be packed non-stop.

Regarding Couchon. I had eaten there a few times. I just couldn't' justify paying $25-30 on an entree that's basically a $7 plate lunch down the road. The menu killed them, not the location.

Huh? Tap Room has the best tap selection in Lafayette in regards to local beer

I drive down Camellia twice each day, to and from work. There are close to a dozen 200 year-old oaks on that corner. IIRC, there were a bunch of similar oak trees that were cut down when they initially developed Parc Lafayette. Nature Conservationists will protest but most of the trees will give way to economic expansion. Directly across KS is a huge parcel of land next to Carabbas. Tons of available space for parking and business development.
