Is it possible for normal folk like myself to buy a USDA prime ribeye and cook it at home? The same quality that is used at high end steakhouses. If so, where at?

Many places. You can buy USDA Prime at Calandros I know. PLus you can order online from many of the same places that furnish steaks for top steakhouses. There is also a place that supplies it in bulk in BR.

I see prime at Whole Foods, Dorignacs, and some of the Robert's in the Metairie/N.O. area.

Lots of prime stuff at a new place called Rare Cuts.

If you want to go online, this stuff from Allen Brothers(link below) is supposed to be great.

Yum

Allen Bros of Chicago is superb. There aged and never frozen Porterhoues I can vouch for easily. They also supply several of the $$$ steakhouses.

I remember hearing on some food network show that you're better off getting USDA select ribeye's because you want that higher fat content in a ribeye for flavor.

I can't recall whether Joey's carries prime, but you could call and check.

You had to have heard wrong. Select is tougher meat. You want flakes of fat in the meat not big chunks of fat. The fat does give flavor but thats why you want the fat in the meat not around it.

I said select, meant choice, sorry. Either way, prime is what makes the panties drop.

Joey's does in fact have prime ribeyes. Filets too if I remember correctly. Ribeyes were $13.98/lb. last time I bought some.
