Yes they are all very good but don’t have quite the cache of a Ruination or a palate wrecker from Green Flash or the hops taste of a Racer 5 IPA.
Those west coast IPAs from around 2009 or so were truly amazing.

Chimes doesn't exactly, do a great job of keeping their lines clean. A few years back, maybe, but with a lot of places since the plandemic, they just don't care.
Burgersmith on Highland has the dirtiest lines in the city, they know it, and they don't care. If i was a brewery, i wouldn't want my beer served there.

I wish we had ballast point back. Ballast point came to Louisiana just around the time the haze train just began and i never truly appreciated how phenomenal sculpin was. By the time i started yearning for west coast IPA's again, they already packed their shite and left Louisiana.

Yup - not only expensive to make their beer, but since 2018 (when Sapporo bought them), Anchor has sold an average of 21% its annual packaged beer volume outside of California. Basically, they make a lot of beer and no one outside of California buys it.

Ballast point barely survived. Constellation Brands is still trying to swim out of a pool of their own blood after losing $800 million on it. It sold for $1 billion in 2015. It was worth $17 million by 2019.
But yes, Sculpin is (was) a modern classic.
I bought my first homebrew kit from Homebrew mart, which would later become Ballast point.

I don't think it helped that their beer was glaringly much more expensive than literally everything else on the shelf. They were doing like $14.99 six packs, when literally everybody else was was around $8-9. I think a lot of casual beer drinkers, or curious types who might have been inclined to try it out, would look at that and say, "nah, frick that." Even if you knew about it and thought it was good, you would probably think it's not THAT much better than everything else.

I remember when that $1 billion buyout was announced. That began the rush on brewery buyouts. At no point, would i consider a craft brewery to have a billion dollar valuation. I doubt Sierra Nevada, or Boston Beer Company are that big.
The owner, however, made out like bandits. From starting up a homebrew shop to eventually selling it for $1 bill... Props to them.
