Tula Taco in Lafayette is Closing

Sounds like Wednesday is their last day open. I thought the food was pretty good.

I've eaten at Tula a half dozen times as the food is solid. Great location when walking along Jefferson St downtown. Sad to see them go. The owners are very familiar with the food industry and obviously decided to cut their losses. Surprised La Caretta is still open as they never appear packed with customers and the rent has to be higher than giraffe pussy.

Yep, same group, or atleast some of the same people.
The food was good, different from all the normal TexMex places in town, hipster/quirky Mexican a good way to describe it I guess. It's a bit of a bummer that Lafayette can't keep Tulas busy enough to make it but they'll be waiting in line for 2 hours for a table once Superior Grill opens and they're probably scouting a site for Agave #17 as we speak.

I thought the food was mediocre, the drinks were solid though.
Hopefully whatever replaces it is good, I like the courtyard in the back.

Tula tacos was one of my favorite places in Lafayette pre-Covid. The margaritas were the best in town. Some of their tacos were insane good. Management was amazing and present. Service was fast and always around.
When they reopened, it was terrible. It is sad they are gone, but I wish they hadn’t reopened after Covid.

Felt the same way. Would end up getting the chopped salad last few times I went. When I get a salad at a taco shop there's some problems. Food was just mediocre for the price...I used to love Urbanos' tacos (what used to be in Blanchard's current building).

There shrimp tacos were very good, albeit a little messy. They were so good, that's all I ever ordered from their menu, so can't comment about anything else. Tula was a lunch stop for me for a while, so no margarita experience.
Downtown Laffy is a challenging location for goods and services if you don't live or work anywhere near there.
Sad, but true. And Downtown Development Unlimited has tried to change that.

Tacos from taco truck on University are better and 1/3 the price. Tulas was better when they first opened. They made the tortillas homemade and we’re good. The last time I went the torts were different. It seemed like they were store bought.

Until Fightingville and a few other neighborhoods are torn down or gentrified, downtown will continue to be what it is.

There are quite a few places that do very well downtown, we go quite often and we live off of East Bayou. The food just didn’t cut it at Tula. Central, Pops, Vestal, Pamplona, and Tsunami are all very busy.
I get that it may be out of the way if you live in Youngsville or something.

We do Central, Vestal, and Tsunami from time to time. All good restaurants. Tsunami doesn't seem nearly as busy as they were in the early to mid-2000s. They changed ownership recently, but still put out a good product. We live a little further away than you, prefer options closer to us, but will make the decision to go downtown when ready.
