Adding or substituting Tony's is a terrible idea for crawfish imo. It's not made for large boils like that. If you put enough in to give it a decent flavor your'e going to over-salt the shite out of them. I'd stick to what you were doing before you mess up a sack of crawfish.

Nope can't say I ever done it.

But once went to a crawfish boil with Tony Chachere at Bayou Courtableau. Does that count

Tony was a super nice guy BTW.

I thought he was dead? Maybe Tony Sr. is dead and you ate with Tony Jr, or quite possibly, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

It was Tony Sr. and yes he passed many years ago.

He was a friend of my Moms family, and I was just a kid at the time. But I always remember meeting him and how nice he was. And I think Tony's seasoning was not even on the market at the time. He was the "cookbook guy" back then

I've done it before and it came out just fine. Did it the same what I've done crawfish before with all the fixings just with seasoned salt instead of crawfish boil. What exactly do people thing crab boil is? It's a form of seasoned salt.

But with seasoning that taste better on seafood. This is the ingredients list from the most popular seasoned salt on the market. No thanks.

most of the crawfish boil seasonings you buy in the store contain 275 ~ 375 mg of sodium

Tony's has 310 mg in the green can ; basically the exact same thing with exception of other additives: liquid crab boil, lemon oil , and a few others spices

I wouldn't add TC's to my crawfish boil but to each their own . Whatever works for you

Who uses Tony's after the boil? Tony's isn't needed at any part of a crawfish boil.

My FIL's crawfish are so bad that last time I resorted to sprinkling them with Tony's. The dude ruins more crawfish per year than just about anyone in the state. He should have criminal charges filed against him. Stubborn MF'er.

It's not a preference... it was done out of necessity.

Once you add garlic, onion, lemon, celery, liquid crab boil, along with the seasoned salt, you'd barely be able to tell the difference. At least you get it. It's not a common method I use but if you're in a bind, it works just fine.

I didn't buy crawfish, beer, and invite friends over to be concerned with sodium content.

I usually eat and drink so much the sodium is the least of my worries

If I was in Bumfuk, Eqypt and had no access to commercial crawfish boil I would definitely use Tony's and improvise on the other additives

when cooking at home I use my own seasonings, haven't used the green can in 5-6 yrs , to salty for me

Lmao at people who think Tony's in a pot of crawfish could somehow screw it up. unless you put 10 lbs or something. It would serve the same purpose as salt plus give a little extra kick. I've never put it in a pot and havnt boiled crawfish in 4 years, but there is no way in hell it could negatively effect the flavor if used in a sane increment.

I don't think it would ruin a pot of crawfish but you'd have to watch what all you added to the water for sure. Replacing salt with Tony's isn't a great idea imo.

310 mg of Sodium is nearly 2.5 times more than my own line of Cajun seasoning (130 mg)

I prefer more seasonings & spices in my product and less salt or filler

Wouldn't do it for crawfish but I do it with peanuts, when I want to give them a little kick. Add a couple of cans of Tony's, to the water, with a sack of nuts. I let them soak until the salt's right. It gives them some kick without the stronger flavor you get when using crab boil.
