Would you agree to a "Blind Taste Test"? Amongst Friends?
Top Three Favorites (Lagers, IPAs, Esoterics, etc.). Identical Tasting Vessels, Identical Volumes, Identical Temperatures.
Identify all Three, Specifically, out of Ten Attempts.
Might be Humbling . . .

?

If you're asking me to pick out a lager, IPA, and something else, that would probably be easy.

If you're asking me to pick out a specific lager or IPA out of a lineup of 5, that would be hard.

are you asking if we would subject to a blind taste test with our 3 favorite IPAs, for examples?

I'm sure that would be quite difficult

I think what you are wanting to say is that would be be able to tell the difference between perceived great beer, and a perceived mediocre beer of the same style in a blind taste test. Correct?

Your Three Favorites. Rate them - One, Two, Three.
See how accurate your Taste Buds are.

I'd love to do something like that. Been wanting to do one with the Trappist quads. Or double IPA's. Not necessarily to ID each one, but to see which are my favorites when I don't have a label to judge by.

But "Mavens" tout the Superiority of one over the other. And their Taste Buds Affirm it.

Not a favorites game. You would try to idenify between similar beers. Taste is subjective.

but your little test of me choosing my 3 favorite of one style isn't going to really prove anything...

This is what to do.

Trying to identify is tough. Get a pen and paper and write down what you liked and why, so when you're done you can rate. Don't try and rate as you go. Just put notes as to why you liked more or less than others. Rate at end.

I've done this numerous times with beer, bourbon, vodka, scotch, etc.
I drink and appreciate quality drinks and its tough tough to blindly identify.
